the jaw width to jaw length of man and chimp are about .8. The jaw width to jaw length of cat is about .6. The jaw width to length of cow is about .5. Man and chimp eat alot of meat, cats eat meat, and cow eats no meat.

  1. I believe the jaw width to length ratio is associated with how large the things they usually eat is and not whether they are vegetarian, omnivore, or an obligate carnivore. For example, the gharial, a type of crocodile with a long, thin snout, eats primarily fish between 6 inches and a foot or so in length; whereas an american alligator has a broad snout for crushing the shells of large turtles. In the same vein, a great white has jaws for tearing chunks out of large animals, wheras certain hammerheads have jaws for scooping out small fish. So a long thin jaw is smaller prey and a broader jaw for chopping up much larger prey, or even chewing extremely large leaves of fruits.
