  1. Identical twins are when an egg splits and grows into two babies.  Fraternal twins are two separate eggs that are released and fertilized or arificially inseminated eggs implanted can produce multiple birth babies (twins, triplets, ....etc).  The chances of twins are determined usually if one of the two of you has twins in their family naturally.  But if you are into furtility clinics, insemination and fertility drugs have a higher probability of multiple birth babies.

  2. A woman's chance of twins also increases with age, being heavier weight wise, and having a greater number of children previously.

  3. THE WOMAN. IF ONE EGG SPLITS INTO TWO OR MORE, THE BABIES WILL BE IDENTICAL. IF THERE ARE MORE THAN ONE EGG RELEASED AND FERTILIZED AT THE SAME TIME, THE BABIES WILL BE FRATERNAL. GOOD LUCK!

  4. In order to have twins you need to release two eggs at the same time and they both have to be fertilized and attach.  I believe it is the woman's side that increases the chances because it can be hereditary to release multiple eggs per cycle.

  5. It's all the woman - either the egg splits in two (identical twins) or two eggs are dropped and fertilized (fraternal twins).

As much fun as the idea of twins is, remember that being pregnant with twins puts you in a high risk category - you're more likely to have problems with the pregnancy such as early labor and more likely to have a c-section.

One baby at a time is the safest way to go. However, the older a woman gets (after age 35) the more likely she is to drop two eggs at once and have twins.

  6. actually its both. yes the woman has to release two eggs to have faternal twins, but in order for identical twins the woman's egg has to split, there has to be a gene in the males sperm to cause it to split.
