Question:

Does the words "global warming" imply that it is man-made, where opposers use the term "climate change"

Therefore non-believers call it a myth. However I have heard people who dont support the man made idea, still refer to it as global warming.

How do I clearly define it?

  1. climate ruined by people

  2. It's confusing because the UN defined "global warming" as man made.  This was no accident.

When someone says "global warming" they are referring to man-made global warming.  When someone objective states that there is no global warming, implying man made, the believers point to a temperature graph and claim they are wrong as the Earth has indeed warmed slightly.

It's a perfect ruse to obfuscate the issue.

  3. Some claiming anthropogenic (man made pollution)  global warming as the source of global warming are now redefining this as climate change. So those wishing to debunk the bad science being used to create fear and panic with regard to slight upward trend in temperature need to now use the same terms as the fear mongers.   The recent years of cold winters in places like Russia and this year in the mid to upper part of North America would seem to indicate the Global thermostat is adjusting temperature,   in part due to the Sun's solar intensity ?  Many variables shape the global and regional weather patterns.

  4. Global warming = Temperatures are rising around the world

Climate change = The climate and atmosphere is changing and deviating from the norm. Could be global warming, cooling, pressure increase/decrease. Increased rainfall. Anything where the climate is different

I don't like the term "non-believers", it makes me look sinful. I'd rather call the liberals "alarmists" or "extremeists"

Man-made global climate change (there's a new term for you) is a fraud. The terms don't matter too much.

  5. When I see or hear the term "global warming", I take it to be a naturally occuring cycle of Earth's climate.

When I see "Anthropogenic global warming" (AGW), I take that use to be so-called 'man-caused' global warming.

The issue is not whether or not the Earth is warming..... it is whether or not man is causing it.

So far.... in spite of what we are hearing from either side of the debate.... we really don't know if the Earth is warming.

The temperature monitoring stations have been discovered to be providing flawed data..... temperatures higher than actual....due to substandard placement/equipment.  It is a serious matter that undermines virtually all of the studies utilizing this data for temperature tracking.

"Published works by Dr. Roger Pielke of the University of Colorado, Dev Nyogi of Purdue University, and Georg Taylor of Oregon State University have demonstrated that a significant number of USHCN and other weather stations used in the climate record have some significant, and in some cases severe measurement biases near the thermometers in these climate stations of record. There have been instances recorded of air conditioners being located directly adjacent to the thermometer, vehicles parked next to thermometers head-in, heat generating electronics and electrical components being placed in the thermometer shelters within inches of the sensor, and sensors being located in the middle of large areas of asphalt/concrete and directly attached to buildings all in violation of standard published NOAA practices for temperature measurement. None of these things witnessed by observers and captured by photography are known or accounted for by climate researchers."

  6. No, global warming means just what the name implies - that the planet is consistently warming.

Anthropogenic global warming (AGW) means that it's man-made.

Climate change is the result of global warming.  Again as the name implies, global warming causes the Earth's climate to change.

You are correct however that deniers tend to use the term "climate change".  In fact, in 2003, Republican strategist Frank Luntz sent out a now-infamous memo to Republican political candidates instructing them to use the term "climate change" rather than "global warming", because he felt the latter was a more frightening term.

  7. Anthropological Global Warming (AGW) has almost become a religion among its proponents. They've bought the AGW propaganda that climate change is due to bad behavior on the part of humans.

There's a lot at stake politically and financially for the proponents of the AGW theory.

The propaganda about AGW has been hot (No pun intended.) talking point for politicians.  It's become politically correct to say that "man is bad, and is causing global warming".

If the Universities and Government funded Laboratories admitted that the data that supposedly supports a "AGW" conclusion is fatally flawed... They would lose hundreds of millions of dollars in grants.. And Al Gore would have to recall his book, and return his Nobel Peace Prize....

The data that dispels the myth of AGW is coming from scientists that have no political or financial ax to grind. Climate experts such as Dr. Robert Carter have done their research pretty much on their own nickel...

Just another example of special interest groups seeing a money and power making opportunity and talking about it often enough and loud enough to create a constituency.

The Earth has gone through many warming and cooling cycles in its history.  The data indicates that we're actually heading into a cooling cycle due to projected reduced energy output from the sun.

You may be surprised to know that I'm a "green" guy...  Very much in favor of reducing local pollution..  Years of pulmonary problems have placed me firmly in favor of clean air.  However, this has very little to do with the claims of AGW.

  8. They use the phrase "climate change" because it covers all bases.

If the Earth warms, cools, gets wetter, drier, has more hurricanes or less hurricanes, it can be called "climate change" and blamed on humans.

  9. Hmm.I don't really know how to define it, but from what I have learned, it is probably not man-made.

Our world has undergone changes since it first spun off

Man didn't cause it and man probably can't stop it

  10. The term "global warming" does not imply its man made--nor does the term "climate change." Some global warming in Earth's history--and some climate changes--have been natural. The CURRENT global warming and climate change are man-made. But the terms themselves don't indicate that one way or the other.

The so-called "deniers" only display their ignorance by their frequent misuse of the terms.  Here's the clarification you wanted:

    >"Global warming refers to a olong-term increase in the average temperature of the Earth.

    >"climate change" refers to long-term shifts in climate--that is--in average weatherpatterns.  for example, if a region becomes significantly drieer for a long period of time (decades or more).

The relationship: Human activity--primarily CO2 emissions, are causing global warming--which in turn is causing climate changes.

The deniers use the terms interchangeably--which, as I said, just shows they don't even know what the terms mean: global warmig is a cause; climate change is the effect.
