Does the world know that there is more to NY than NYC??

Question

There are so many questions about "are there any of THIS or THAT, in New York?" But what they neglect to say is the word CITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I live in New York and I personally have never been to the city! But I've been all over New York! And just for the record NYC is like a leach to the rest of NY, the city sucks up all the tax money and doesn't "put out".

Actually, the state of New York earns a large percentage of its income from NYC tourism. There are Italians, Jamaicans, Puerto Ricans, Israelis, Kuwaitis, and Ethiopians - all within four blocks of my home. You can't find that anywhere else in the WORLD. Sorry you're too narrow-minded to see it. You just sound like a sour grape to me.

No, not really. Many who aren't from the US don't know that there are other states in the US :)

And you shouldn't be too hard on NYC - they actually generate a tremendous amount of cash and tourism for the rest of the state. NYC actually gets back much less cash than they put in, tax-wise. Besides - what was up with that highway to nowhere that Pataki was building? Who paid for that?

NY is a very beautiful state - those who just visit the city are missing out. That's their loss, don't sweat it.

Apparently not. It's just like anyone who grew up in the city thinks that anything past Hoboken is the Midwest... =)

PS - anyone who thinks NYC is a 24-hour city has never been to Vegas. Vegas is truly a 24-hour city!

No offense, I think you're just jealous.

The city's tourism is apparently the main income for the state. People come to the city because the city is just amazing. Where else can you find tall big building everywhere around you ? where else can you pay tribute to wtc ? where else can you go see the liberty, brooklyn bridge, etc ? sure, theres more to see at upstate NY, i personally love to ski at catskills and everything else. But still, you cant find all this luxury everywhere else. Its one of the busiest city in the world, the city that never sleeps. You cant find this in upstate NY, so chill.

And NYC doesnt leach anything from Upstate. In fact, its 100% the other way around. You guys leach from us, for every dollar we spend in taxes, we get back only 88 cents worth of services. Your schools upstate basically sucked millions of dollars from the NYC public school system. NYC drives the economy of NYS, and if we ever decided to secede your part of the state would fall apart. Even Long Island is pissed at the amount of money that goes towards Upstate, they pay 8.1 billion dollars in taxes upstate and only recieve 5.3 billion back. New York City sent up 11 billion more than they recieved back in services as well. We dont suck your taxes, our taxes go towards fixing your S****y economy.

NYC is the engine to NY State. We don't 'suck up the tax money'. we provide it. Without NYC the rest of NY has the tax base of Alabama.

well yeah, i live on long island and go to the city often i think it looks really dirty and i don't like it but.. i'm proud of it because it makes ny so popular.
