This is sung to the tune of band music played at football games. "More beer for ? high, you bring the whiskey I'll bring the rye. Send a freshman out for gin and don't let a sober sophomore in. Juniors may stagger, seniors may fall, we'll sober up on good alcohol, while the loyal faculty lies drunk on the ballroom floor. More Beer!

Even though our entire family is tea tottlers, this song has been in the family for years. It was taught to me when I was in high school by my mom as a joke. Now I have taught it to my own teenager as a joke but we were discussing how funny it is and we know nothing about the origins of the lyrics or how they came to be. Anyone got any information on this funny ditty??

  1. That song has been changed to fit almost any school, mainly colleges. It is based off of the Notre Dame original fight song, I believe. Here are some versions I've heard/seen:

    Cal Poly Drinking Song

Oh it's beer beer for old Polytech

Fill all the glasses up to the neck

Send the Freshmen out for gin

And don't let a sober sophomore in

We never stagger, we never fall

We sober up on wood alcohol

    While the loyal faculty

Lie drunk on the bar room floor!

    Notre Dame:

Beers, beers for old Notre Dame

Bring on the cocktails, we want champagne

Send the freshmen out for gin,

Don't let a sober sophomore in.

We never stagger, we never fall,

We sober up on wood alcohol,

All the loyal faculty lie drunk on the bar room floor!

    Theta Xi fraternity:

Beer, beer, for old Theta Xi,

You bring the whiskey, I'll bring the rye.

Send the pledges out for gin,

don't let a sober brother in.

We never stagger, we never fall.

We sober up on wood alcohol.

While our loyal girls are marching,

back to the bar for more.

    Notre Dame again:

Beer, beer for old Notre Dame.

Bring on the whiskey, bring on the dames!

We drink wine or beer or gin

Don't let a sober person in!

We never stumble, we never fall.

We sober up on wood alcohol.

As our loyal sons go marching

Back to the bar for more!

    EDIT: Notre Dame's original lyrics

Cheer, cheer for old Notre Dame,

Wake up the echoes cheering her name,

Send a volley cheer on high,

Shake down the thunder from the sky.

What though the odds be great or small

Old Notre Dame will win over all,

While her loyal sons are marching

    Onward to victory.
