  1. its one of those thing you have to find out for yourselves but for my mother it does matter. I think its more trust in faith I heard it does work for some people.I don't know of any websites but there are so many books on the subject of reiki and so many classes so please check it out. also check out reiki exchange and meditation and yoga and acupunture.

  2. Reiki does work.

If you are curious to find out first hand, I would say go and get a series of treatments and see what happens for you.  For many people one treatment is all they need to be convinced of the benefits of Reiki.

    Blessings

  3. Reiki works just as well, and in exactly the same way as therapeutic touch, magnets, crystals, acupuncture and homeopathy etc etc

It doesn't work at all by the unproven mechanism claimed. Any subjective benefits people claim is entirely due to the placebo effect.  It is metaphysical nonsense.

There is no credible evidence that Reiki does anything more than activate the placebo mechanism.  I am very familiar with the literature and research on it, so I invite any of the adherents to refer me to studies they think are proof.  They don't exist.

  4. I think it is placebo...

When your mind is focus to one thing (in this case) to get hill or something... The counciosness somehow finds the way to get it that for you...

I belive in universial power... Not in magic.

  5. I've been practicing Reiki since 2000, receiving my Masters training in 2001. There are alot of versions of the Reiki history, and most of them are in parable form - however Westerners tend to be 'literalists', believing that any tale is the literal truth.

The true story of Dr. Usui is not at all 'magical'. Mikao Usui was a lifelong practitioner of a form of QiGong. In that system, you learn how to heal others through building up your personal store of energy and then emptying that into another person. However, as you can imagine, this is risky for the person providing the healing. He wanted to find a system of energy healing that would not deplete the personal energy of the practitioner. He studied many Buddhist texts from various schools and eventually compiled the information that would become the Reiki system.

Reiki works on the same principals as other Eastern meridian therapies such as acupuncture, shiatsu, reflexology, etc. It simply using chi/ki/prana directed through the practitioner to stimulate, clear, and charge the meridians, rather than physical needles or pressure.

As with many natural and alternative forms of healing, you'll run into many skeptics and hardliners. 99% of them have never experienced the modalities that they critique so harshly. As for the dearth of scientific evidence that they will always point to, the fact of the matter is that Big Pharma is the #1 source of funding for medical research, and so most of the studies are done are done with the aim of finding new medications that they can mass-produce and sell to make more money. They are not interested in researching the efficacy of alternative therapies...and when some money does get thrown in that direction, it is usually with the unspoken purpose to debunk in order to make people more dependant on medications.

The other factor that plays into this is the fact that we are dealing with subtle levels of energy that science has not yet developed equiptment to properly detect and measure. That doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. That would be like saying ultraviolet light didn't exist until someone was able to detect it. It was always there and always having the same effect, people were just unaware of it (and if you'd tried to tell them about it they wouldn't have believed you). The world was not flat until someone discovered it was round. These facts were just beyond the knowledge of the time. Same thing with Reiki and other forms of subtle healing. People who say that crystal healing is bunk say so while on their wrist is a watch that utilizes a quartz crystal to function.

What is an interesting line of study is how Quantum theory is validating the claims that shamans and mystics and occultists have been saying for thousands of years. The methods of subtle energy healing work on those same principals.

I became a Reiki Master because of the amazing positive effects that I experienced as a result of having a few treatments 10 years ago. I had chronic, hereditary health issues that western medicine wasn't able to address satisfactorily. I began exploring natural modalities. I acheived a new state of balance and healing, which continues to increase. This was NOT the placebo effect. The placebo effect cannot counteract hereditary illnesses, and certainly cannot maintain those effects in the long-term.

In my experiences as a Reiki Master I've watched Reiki reverse mood disorders, correct glandular abnormalities, dramatically reduce the need for pain medications in those with chronic pain syndromes and much more.

I have a good friend who is a very scientifically-minded engineer. He was very skeptical about Reiki, but wanted to see what it was that I did. I gave him a treatment and was amazed - saying he'd never felt anything like it. He is now a regular on my table!

My advice to those looking into the efficacy of Reiki is to have a treatment and see how you feel about it afterwards. Ideally, set up several treatments to have over a month so that you can see the real progress you will make with any of your issues. However, most people feel convinced of the value of Reiki after simply experiencing one treatment.

Try it and see how you feel!

  6. Reiki is every bit as effective as homeopathy.

  7. Reiki does work. I am living proof, aside from being a practicing Reiki Master for abour 8 years, I have received Reiki treatment for a medical condition for which the doctors wanted to perform surgery, after treatment the doctor's could no longer find the contidion.

I also suffered with life threatening allergies hat had me constantly drugged up and hospitalized every 6 or 8 weeks to receive IV Steroids for a period of about 7 years. No doctor could promise me anything better than a life of relying on drugs to keep me alive.

Finally I went for Reiki treatment, after 6 months of treatment, the Reiki was able to achcive the results that the doctors declared impossible. I was able to quit all medications and my allergies are no longer life threatening. I have not had to return to the hospital for about 6 years.

The skeptics who say that it does not work have not tried it. Those who say there are no scientific studies that show effectiveness of Reiki treatment, have not done theor work. I have seen the study done by the nine year old girl cited several times, seriously.

If you do your research you will find several studies that show effectiveness. If you are not sure, try it!

  8. go with prana's answer. it is excellent as it answers both parts of your question.

The best and most accurate information on Mikao Usui's life can be found on his memorial stone, in a cemetary in Kyoto. Forget the fairy tales and magical elements. They were probably fabricated by people wanting to mythologise and enfantasise Reiki. You can find a translation of the stone here:

  9. Go with the scientific studies, and they say "no"... just placebo effect as you said.

There was a study years ago by a 9 y/o girl that proved the Therapeutic Touch practitioners could not sense which of their hands she placed her's under.  They got a score that was less than chance!  check it out:  http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRela...

Right now Fios "On Demand" has a Penn & Teller show, "Bullsh*t",  that has Reiki and TT (Therapeutic Touch) debunked.

update:  what? thumbs down to any who declare it false in the name of science?   Now for my fave Nacho Libre quote:

"You don't like me because I believe in Science!"

  10. Reiki Does work.  The NIH - National Institute of Health is doing several research projects.

Recently there has been a man using radio waves..aka energy waves to heal cancer and he is getting a lot of TV recognition.

Reiki is energy waves transmitted from one person to another and I have seen amazing results.  I work with CTRC Cancer Therapy Research Center doing Free Reiki to their patients and family members and they love it.

I've been teaching Reiki in the Nursing Program at a local college since 1998 and they love the results.  Also they like the ability to sense areas of disruption "Byosen" that helps them work with people that are intabated (have breathing tubes in their mouth so they can't talk).
