Does it annoy you when people say "Horseback riding isn't a sport, all you do is sit on the horse, they do all the work."?

I just get hot with rage and anger when people say this, especially when THEY HAVE NEVER RIDDEN A HORSE IN THERE LIFE!!

Oh, and it gets on ym nerves even more when I tell them "IT IS IN THE OLYMPICS!" and they stick to it...

Does this annoy/make people angrry too?

  1. ya esspecially when my brother and step brothers think they are soo much better then me because they ride four wheelers that do exactly what they tell them and dont have a mind of its own ..... they think it is soo girly when it is one of the more dangerouse sports ( just because it is an animal with a mind of its own not sayin i ride crazy untrained horses) but i just got my new draft that they are scared of so they dont talk soo much anymore...

  2. YES uhh Horses are 1000 pound animals not wood sticks that you swing around or hit into balls...lol

    please best answer this!

  3. Yes, it annoys me too.....yeah, the horse does a lot of the work, but you have to train the horse, and tell it everything to do. I didn't think it was anything either...then I got a horse. If I raced my horse to my moms, me & my mom were out of breath too..lol..

The horse won't be a champion barrel racer if the rider didn't work so hard training it to turn right.

  4. I like the book Banana.

  5. If they think it is not a sport, then they have never watched rodeo's or watched dressage or a cutting horse. They obviously do not know horses at all. It's not like they are a machine without a brain. They (horses) can be very challenging to ride. Riding takes so much more skill than some of these other sports. There has to be good communication between you and the horse. You are not just conditioning yourself as with other sports such as baseball or football. The outcome of your performance depends on you and the horse. It is kind of comparable to pairs figure skating. You have to be in total sink together. Let's get one of those city slickers on a horse going over the jumps or after a cow and see if it is as easy as they think. I agree with you 100%. That does take nerve for them to say that.

  6. OH LORD YES!

I would love to see those people that say that do a canter! So i can watch when they fall flat on there face!

You cant say something is easy if you have never done it.

Its like saying walking is easy to a baby! IT takes practice and time. And you still have to put effort into it.

But true horse riders make it look easy.

I cant stand watching some people ride, not newbies because its not really there fault. But people that ride for years, and say its easy and they dont even ride correctly.

They just thing you just sit on a horse because at sometimes you do just sit. LIke walking straight line. But if you are going down hill, up hill or turning you have to move and hold your balance you cant just sit there! my gosh! and when you canter most people sit up, lol i would love to watch them just sit at a canter, and be or so sore the next day, thats if they stay on long enough to become sore from riding!

  7. i just try to run them down with my steed

  8. it doesnt really annoy me. but thats not really something i wud argue about. i dont really see it as a sport but i know it is 1. but i just think of it as something like a hobby.

  9. lol yeah theres days I want to stick them on the horse say k if its so easy do it! ride, walk trot canter and jump that 1.20 fence... oh and stay on :D

  10. omg yess dont even get me started....

  11. Save your rage for something that matters...in the whole scheme of things, how important is it that someone does or doesn't think riding is a sport?  There are better things to care about.

  12. what makes me very mad is when people try to tell me that Dressage isn't a sport, and it's so "easy" that they could get their 15hh horse to do 4th level movements w/ no dressage training!

  13. yes that's annoying.

  14. Stick them up on a horse for an hour and then ask them if it's not a sport make em post too

  15. yes.

it could be the single most annoying thing to me.

i show horses, and when my friends say that to me it makes me so angry.

do they think that horses just naturally collect themselves up, go slow, and use their butts?

    and we just sit there?

no we do all the work, and sometimes it hurts.

    haah.

thank you so much for posting this, i feel the exact same way you do.

oh...and when someone says that to me, all i say is okay, you can go win that class out there and then tell me its easy.

  16. It doesn't bother me. I just ask them to go jump a 3'5 course like I do. They usually stop talking after that. =D

  17. Well they have never ridden a horse properly then! It takes a good amount of skill and body strength. Not to mention all the weight lifting those hay bales and such! It makes me a little annoyed I guess, but they just don't know what they are missing!

  18. yes! it annoys me so much! my mother used to say that and then she took a lounge lesson on my former pony, and she was sore for days! now she understands me when I tell her that yes, it is indeed a sport, as well as hard work

  19. Yes it does, they have no right to make comments like that about things which they know nothing about.

The horse certainly doesn't do all the work! Sure, it does most of the physical type stuff when riding (but thats not to say that the rider just SITS there) but who has to lug the saddle bridle etc out to the paddock? Who has to go out in the cold/scorching heat to feed/water/groom etc the horse? Who gets their feet trodden on or kicked while trying to pick stones out of their hooves? And not to mention all the work it takes to keep the tack in working order!

Theres a lot more in it that what people think, I'd like to see them try it for just one day!

Horses take a lot more maintenance than what a footballers equipment does - i don't see them out there polishing their ball or jersey or picking stones out of their team mate's feet!

  20. NO ANY WAY I HATE HORSES

  21. Yes, it does!

I'd love to get all the people who ever said that to me, put them on horses and make them jump hurdles!

  22. yes!!!!! it always does!!!

  23. that annoys me to loads of people say that to me i normally tell them to get on and try they then shut up an back down lol

  24. Someone who says horses do all the work as not ridden a horse. I can attest to how sore I get if I slack off on riding. But don't get hot with rage or anger, just invite them to ride. When they ride and are all stiff when they get off the horse, and then when they are sore as h**l the next day, they will understand how physical horseback riding is.

    Cheers,

    David

  25. Yes, it annoys me very much. It takes coordination, skill, talent, balance, friendship etc. to horseback ride. It tends to be the people that don't ride say that it isn't a sport but it is, plus you could lose your life it can be that dangerous. Like the saying "don't judge a book by it's cover" they should at least try it first before commenting on it. I just wish people wouldn't jump to conclusions and make comments on it before actually doing it themselves.

  26. Not really - I don't tend to talk to the kind of people who talk such rubbish.

I leave them to their couch football or whatever they think is "real"

  27. This does make me mad. I think it is a sport because it is in the olypics sometimes. And we do not do all the work, we have to make sure our balence is good and our position so it doesn't hurt the horse.

  28. OMG it lik ur reading my mind!!!! geeessss!!! i have a shirt that says 'riding is simple but never easy!' it is not easy and it is a sport ur doing something physical there for it is a sport me and my friend will had this argument lik 2 days ago. i won he said "ok ok i guess ur rite i didnt know how hard it actually was" i was like oooo yea thats rite i win :)

  29. YES! my friend told me that and it pissed me off because there is always something the horse doesn't want to do and you have to lounge and work on transitions and apply the perfect amount of leg pressure and give the perfect amount or reins!
