I wouldn't have known of Tanni if I hadn't read this.

  1. Yes, she is an olympian still. I think people don't know of this because the paralympics don't get as much coverage as the olympics

  2. Indeed!

Become a journalist and trumpet it from the rooftops.

Does anyone out there realise that Great Britain is always in the medals with the equestrianism at the paralympics, very often in gold position?  Why dont we ever hear of that either?

Shame on you all journalists reading this and shame on you world for looking the other way and making the 'other' games something that happens after the main event rather than with it.  They are no less olympians than the able bodied guys.

  3. Yes I have known of her for a number of years. It's such a shame she does not get as much attention as other athletes. Fortunately though she has been recognised in the honours list when she was made a Dame.

  4. she makes a excellent point.

  5. The blogger does make a very good point- it shows the bizarre hierarchy of achievement value that we seem to have in sport- another thing to point out is the crazy lack of mainstream coverage of women's football, why aren't we giving more time to sports where there's obvious achievements being made?

  6. Definately, though honestly I am shocked you've not heard of Tanni Grey-Thompson Ern!! I have, and as a teenager I probably shouldn't care! She's an amazing lady, and an inspiration to us all.

EDIT: Aww I didn't mean to chastise, she's just quite a well known figure, well at least I thought she was. I don't really follow anything other than rugby either, I just like A Question of Sport :)

  7. Indeed they do. It is surely time that paralympians were acknowledged as  the athletes they most certainly are.

  8. Not sure it is a good point but agree it is one school of thought but political correctness gone too far perhaps?

Should we compare wheel chair times in marathons to runners or physically disabled race times to the non disabled; I think they must both be kept separate for logical reasons and not compared because "it seems the right thing to do"

  9. ????????????????????????????????
