I have never joined a sports team at my school, but i have done gymnastics for 3 years.. does that count as an extra curricular sport?

I'm going to be a senior.. do i have any chance to get into any college?i do a lot of volunteer work and i am thinking about joining a lot of things this year.. is it too late for me? I am in ap classes and have good grades..but i think colleges will turn me down because i have so little extra curricular activities.

I'm graduating a year earlier then my class..does that give me an advantage when colleges are considering admissions, or is that nothing special?

  1. Gymnastics is considered extra curricular if it's not part of your PE or school requirement (anything EXTRA beyond what it required by the school).

Graduating a year earlier doesn't necessarily give you an advantage. Many universities get early applicants and then worry about how mature the students are. The only advantage to you is that you can get your applications out of the way and know where you're going ahead of your peers. You could also start community college classes (General Eds) ahead of time (make sure they transfer) instead of waiting to do them when you do start university.

  2. Listen, colleges do like to see students do extra curricular activities however, they would rather see that you were dedicated to one thing (school organization or not) rather than join a bunch of random clubs your last year of high school. You can put gymnastics on your application. My advice to you is that you join a club or two that associates with what you want to go to school for or at least something you're interested in so they don't just think you joined clubs for your college application to look good. Relax, your good grades and AP will make you a shoe in. Have a great year.

  3. You should have enough extra curricular activities. In some districts, they give scholarships to those who graduate early, so that's another advantage. You have a great change to get into a college.

  4. Yes, things outside of school count as extra-curriculars as well.  But that's not going to be the final deciding thing as to whether or not you get into college.  Your grades and test scores matter more.
