Does this create a dangerous work environment?

There's a rude customer who has a couple of teen sons that come into my workplace and harasses employees and other customers. His is just rude, but his kids have been caught playing pranks on customers and making racist remarks to myself and other staff. They also have made death threats over the phone (one of our staff got a call and realized from the background noise it was coming from the store; he found them making calls using a cell phone while in the store). Our bosses are too scared of causing any problems that they have done nothing about it. They won't even let us report them to the police.

I am already pursuing a hostile workplace claim. I was wondering if I might pursue a dangerous workplace claim as well. We have two employees at closing time. The manager locks the door and stands next to it so that he can unlock it and let customers out while keeping new people from coming in. The other works the registers and checks out any remaining customers. The lights are dimmed to let customers in the store know we are closed. So basically, at times I am left alone in the store after closing with the lights dimmed while a foul mouthed, racist family that has already made death threats against me are also in the store while the only other employee is out of sight. We are not allowed to take trash to the dumpster after the sun sets for safety reasons, yet this is considered ok?

  1. Why not try to grow some balls. I do not let anyone be rude to me. If you can't handel any situation that may come up on your own why pursue a hostile workplace claim. Why not pursue a poor me claim, or a why am I a wimp claim. If you worked for me this never would have become an issue, but anyone signing any kind of complaint or claim would be out the door so fast they wouldn't know what hit them. Grow up, and get on with it.

  2. I would be looking for another job.

I would not stay around in a situation such as this.

Why should you have to put up with this, after all, all your trying to do is earn a living.

If your bosses are not prepared to do anything to protect you, which they have a duty to do, then you really should move on.
