Does this driver sound right for me?

I just left the PGA superstore and here are my stats: swing speed about 105, ball speed about 155, rpm 3100, carry about 260. The instructor recommended a nike sumo 2 5900 HT with an NV 65 X-stiff shaft. Does this sound like a good driver for me?

  1. Yeah that sounds like a pretty good driver. Now after you buy a driver go get some lessons. Enjoy

  2. You left the PGA Superstore after you went to the trouble of seeking professional instruction and obtaining all of the information, gaining 40 to 50 yards on your drive, and you didn't buy the driver that was recommended? What do want from us?

It's the right driver for you!

  3. Thye NV should be a good shaft, it is not quite as stiff as other X shafts. It is a tip soft shaft. The driver you choose is entirely up to you.

  4. the Nike is a good driver no doubt about it.  If you only hit the ball 200 or 220 I think the xstiff shaft is not for you.  That's not what I would buy anyway.  There is a shaft called the "speeder" and it is made by Fujikura.  it normally comes on titlist clubs but you can get them for any club.  I would try that.  It is light and stiff at the same time.

  5. Did you hit this driver or a driver with an x stiff shaft?

Did you hit balls on the range or just a launch monitor.

    What loft is the driver?

The aldila NV is an incredible shaft but the x stiff swing range is 105 to 115. You are at the bottom of this scale so if you are looking for more control then that flex would be correct, depending on the loft of the club obviously. If you did hit this shaft, how did it feel? I am a club fitter  and over the years i have learned that no matter how many specs you match on a club if the user does not like the way it feels they will not be able to hit it consistently, no matter how well they hit it during fitting.

You also mentioned you are a low ball hitter, the NV 65 shaft promotes a low ball flight. If you would like to get the ball up a bit more you might look at the NVS 65(same family of shafts but with a lower bend point promoting a higher ball flight) or the UST proforce v2 65.

I personally like the aldila shafts better.  With the information provided and without seeing you swing I would say no this is not the right driver for you.Its close but not quite
