Does this happen a lot?

My husband is best friends with my friends husband. They were both in the reserves and got the call last night that they will be sent to Iraq September 5th. Is that a normal thing? Do friends usually get sent together? It seems like it wouldn't matter if they were friends or not. Is that just by chance?

  1. If they are in the same unit, absolutely.

Units are deployed out, not individuals-a painful lesson learned from the Vietnam War.

  2. They are more than likely in the same unit, which is why they would be deploying together.  The army doesn't care that they are friends.

  3. You really should not put dates out on a public forum such as this one. It is not safe for the soldiers.

  4. They would If they are in the Same Unit.

Also Dont publicly put out movement dates like that thats a breach of OPSEC. Really you Husband doesnt suppose to tell you movement details like that, but its easier for the family that he did.

Well in my Unit,  we do get deployed as Individuals.

  5. These are good answers your getting. I suggest coming up with a code for dates to talk with your husband while he is deployed. For example my wife and I used the 13th of every month as the base date and referred to the date in question as "plus 5 days" or "minus 10 days" from that point.

  6. It's called OPSEC, operational security and you are violating it and putting soldiers including your husband in danger by putting the dates out there.  Don't you think the bad guys have access to this forum like anyone else.  That was really irresponsible, if you know better then don't do it.
