I am 13 years old, it will be my first horse. I have been riding for 6 years. I would get a younger horse, but I have to pay myself so I am looking for something low-budget. I was hoping to do some bareback riding

  1. I think this horse looks like it would be good for you! I didn't look at the age but if she is an older horse around 22 or older, don't work her to hard adn don't jump her. Good Luck!

  2. She looks pretty good for a 20-year-old, especially if she is your first horse.

  3. Well as you know, she is 20 so she cant do much jumping or racing, but she sounds like a great first horse for recreation riding. Also remember she is on the small side, not sure how tall you are. I bought a 21 year old appy, and he is great.

I say try out the horse first and see if she is something that you really want, or if she is something you can handle.

  4. I'm not being mean but dont you think that horse is a little old but is is a good looking horse

  5. Jesus *shaking head*. This horse is in no way to short. It's a stocky foundation bred quarter horse. I have 6 ft tall men ride some of my little cutting horses that are only 14.1-14.3hh. Height IS NOT the issue, it's body structure. She looks plenty big boned and not at all "pony like". So if you are looking for a older more experienced equine to enjoy on the trails then I say you found a nice little mare right here. She's got a nice bone to her and doesn't look as if her age is deteriorating her ability to keep weight on her. However she is a bit sickle hock and slightly straight in the shoulder. I would make sure you have her vetted to make sure you aren't getting a horse that requires more care than you can provide.

Also, I'm sure after some negotiation you could get the sellers to come off the price, say around $900-1000. Just be sure you are ready to give this mare a forever home as the current owners are so willing to dump this aging mare. This mare deserves a nice comfortable life, not being moved from one home to the next.

EDIT- People are saying that 20 is old. But if the horse is in good health and has no ailments I'm sure you won't be able to tell if she's 12 or 20. I have a 26 year old barrel mare that is still running 1D times and has no ailments. She's as spunky and beautiful as the day is long.

  6. umm well i couldnt see it but im sure its fine

    good luck

  7. I think it sounds great.

  8. yea

  9. She looks good. But maybe you should call the seller and ask some questions about the horse before you make a decision.

  10. You couldn't tell he's 20 by the pictures. But I'm sure you could still find a younger horse in your price range. The horse market is bad, so if you look around some you can find a deal somewhere.

  11. she looks fine to me

  12. She looks great for 20, but don't settle for her just because of the price. You might only have 2 good years with her, if that. Keep looking. You can find a good, younger horse in that price range. Have you checked out any horse rescues? The often adopt their horses out for a minimal fee. Good Luck!

  13. you have to be care full when you are looking for a horse with a low price, because there will usually be something wrong with them . and expecially because she/he is quit old , she will have a lot of problems in the long run , and there may be alot of vet bills . Try looking for something thats not fully trained , usually they will be cheap, and you will probably be a good enough rider to teach him those little things he/she doesnt know .

  14. Wow! What a great looking horse for a 20-year-old! I have heard of horses that are up to forty and still going strong, so if you have a good feeling about this go ahead! Make sure you have met the horse and owners and given her a test ride!

Have fun with your new horse!

  15. I'e had a look the horse looks good for her age, she a beautiful girl. I ride a 22yr old arabian stallion hes still got alot of spunk, she can teach u alot even though shes 20 good luck!!!

  16. she looks ok. of course you should see for yourself and see if you seem to get along or not.  she is old, which is good for a reliable riding horse, but also keep in mind that you will be taking on the care of an older horse that might eventually develop problems from old age and that will eventually pass away.  are you ready for that?

  17. try dreamhorse.com you can go to the advanced search, which lets you pick out the breed, state, discipline, gender, age, color, height, price, etc...thats were i found my friesian cross

  18. it doesn't look very fit.but it's a beautiful horse.

horses are magic animals. it's good to have one and care about.

    go ahead!

  19. Well remember you still are growing and soon that horse will be to short for you..try to get like a 15.0 hands horse but otherwise the horse looks good but im sure you can find a cheper horse.

  20. http://equine.com/horses/search_results....

here is a list of horses in your area.  A lot of those probably would not be right for you, but there a re a few that are around/in your price range and younger.  I like the first TB mare.  She is only ten, quiet, experienced, and the owner is looking for a very good home - so she would probably be very willing to lower the price.

The mare you posted is cute, and sounds like a nice horse, but she is older and will probably need to be retired soon.  If you are going to spend 1200 dollars on a horse (plus board/feed/vetting for an older horse/supplements/vitamins/ect.) you are going to want to be able to ride her for more than a few years.  I do not think she is worth the money, personally, and I would go with a younger horse (if you really look you should be able to find something in your budget...and remember, most sellers are willing to compromise, especially with the way the horse market is now)

    Best of luck

  21. I think it would be a good choice for you. Really a good choice if it is your first horse!

  22. I think it looks good.  It sure is pretty.  If it rides smoothly, I'd say it sounds great.

  23. I'm going to agree with what previous users said. She's older, so she may be retired in a few years, but older horses are probably better for a first horse. She's also14.1 hands, and you're growing, so you might outgrow her.

The owner said the horse is good for kids and novice riders, so she sounds like a pretty good first horse.

But make sure you check her out before making any big decisions.

  24. well, i no it said dont mind her age but 20 is pretty old. it will be really hard to jump her and stuff like that, you will need to go easy on her. but she seems to look pretty good.

  25. shes not young at all. shes 20, and will be ritired in a couple years.

My horse has withers like her and hes not tht comfy bareback.

If i were you i would keep looking.

    but shes very cute.

    good luck!

edit: oh and im 5' 5 too and i say dont get a 14hh horse

  26. Sounds great for a first horse. the owner seems positive it is for kids so sounds good. When you go and view it just make sure you try it in all situations you want to be in with it e.g if you want to jump try t over a jump. Go and see it more than once if you can. Sounds good though !! good luck hope it is the one for you. I am from England (ignore my profile it says im from nz lol) over here we have a 5* vetting to check a potential purchases health. get one of those done or the American equvilant.

  27. She looks like a great horse. Good conformation, and seems to not mind the little kid on her back.

If you've been riding for 6 years I think you should get a younger horse though. I am 14 and have only been riding for 2 years yet I ride a spirited 14 year old mare. I wouldn't get her because after riding her for a few months she will become too easy for you and you will want a challenge. Sometimes it is good to grow with your horse. A horse between the ages of 12-16 would be good, not a big one though as being 13 you are probably small.
