http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/080709/national/war_dodger_stay When men join up in the armed services in Britain they sware allegence to their Queen and country. I guess someting similar happens in the US.But with this guy when the going gets rough he quits and flees to Canada. I think that Canada should deport him so that he can face the music back in his home country. I hate cowards. What are American views on this.

  1. There are a few up here and I wish they would be sent home too as well as most all of us. When you sign up then you have to serve that is just right you volunteered!! We just brought another one of our own solders bodies home today and it makes me sick to think those deserters are getting help from the government prob more than the family of the fallen solder?? I just cant figure out my government, they don't make sense.

  2. No. If he really regrets his decision then he should be allowed to leave. It just seems like a very cruel thing to do to make him serve or to send him to prison. Maybe there are circumstances that might make sense but someone with some compassion and intelligence should be looking at the case.

I think we need to do more for all our military personnel and their families. That shouldn't even be an issue.

Where is the compassion? Where is the empathy? Why are people so hard and tough?

  3. Disgusting.

He most likely joined up to see the world and get a pay chack, my husband knew some people who did that and cried like babies when war broke out!

It is disgusting of anyone, American, British, French whoever, you're a soldier, war is h**l, deal with it, it's what you signed up to do - you're not G.I Joe, and you have a duty to your country - if you can't handle the thought of war - don't sign up - period!

  4. Shot at dawn!

  5. I was a 3A during Vietnam, so I didn't have to worry about being drafted.  I knew several people who fled to Canada to evade the draft and weren't sent back.  I think that is wrong, but it is a Canadian law or policy.  With worldwide opposition to Bushes war policies, there are plenty of countries who wouldn't send him back.

  6. "All real Americans love the sting of combat. We always have and always will. "

    General George S. Patton

While, I admire Patton for the brilliance he displayed in combat--One must remember< General Patton LOVED war and I'm not sure that's always a good thing.

As for the gentleman, mentioned in yahoo news, I know what I think of him. Now, everyone else will have to decide if he's a coward. As much as I admire Patton, he was wrong when he slapped the soldier, because his nerves were shot.

  7. He should be sent back to serve a prison sentence and then deported to Canada with his citizenship revoked and good riddance to trash.

  8. We swear to uphold the Constitution. The courts will handle it, and I won't be prematurely judgmental. But I'd not be likely to offer him a job.

  9. As a volunteer,he has no business fleeing to Canada. Nobody twisted his arm to join up. Send his butt back & ship him off to Afganistan.
