Does this make sense: Biden to help get Catholic Vote, Palin to help get Womens votes?

Seems strange to me, cause Biden's views on abortion turn off most Catholics, and a whole lot of women will be turned off by Palin's views on abortion. But will Americans still vote for someone cause of their religion or gender?

  1. I'm Catholic, bi-racial, and a woman.  I don't vote according to vice president selections.  I'm voting for McCain because I do not trust Obama.  Period.

  2. A lot of Catholics don't follow the church's doctrine when it comes to family planning and birth control so I don't think Biden helps or hurts in that regard.

Palin will get evangelic women who don't believe in abortion for any reason what so ever but she will scare off feminists and other woman who don't see the pro-choice/pro-life issue in such a black and white way as Palin.

  3. you do realize that GWB got more catholic votes then kerry did!

  4. I'm Catholic and I wouldn't vote for someone just because they were baptized Catholic.

I'm a woman and I wouldn't vote for someone just because of gender.

I will vote for McCain, especially now that Palin is on the ticket because she's truly pro-life. That's the most important issue. Protection of life is the first and most basic right.

  5. Biden is pro-abortion most Catholics are Pro Life

Palin will get women votes as well as men voters

Obama will get 99% black voters only because he is black

Obama will get Muslim votes because his lineage is Islam

Obama will sink in the sand come November

  6. Palin to help get Pentocostal vote.

  7. People will stick to the issues like they have done.  Watch the news.  The fighting that we are involved in will escalate as we get closer to the election.  OR even sooner if Palin is made to seem too weak.

  8. no, it doesn't. won't work.

  9. biden

    catholic votes

    rural votes

    foreign policy experience

    average joe vote

    palin

    women vote and what else?

  10. Biden will never get the Catholic vote, because he supports abortion. I went to a Catholic Seminar last week. There was over 10,000 people there. The topic on every ones agenda was this election. They will not vote for Obama, because he supports, the killing of innocent babies. Sarah Palin will not only get the womens votes, she will also be getting the Catholic votes. Democrat for McCain/Palin 2008.

  11. Biden to get Catholics makes some sense, because Catholics as a group have historically supported other Catholics.  Even if they disagree with him on that one thing, most Catholics will probably support Joe Biden.

Palin to get women's votes, not so much.  Women don't vote in large blocks like that.  If most women really wanted a woman in the white house, it would have happened long before now. Women are a majority in this country.  The last time a woman ran for VP on a major party ticket, she was slaughtered (of course, she was running with Walter Mondale, but still....).   Putting a woman on the ticket to bring over a group that historically has not voted for their own kind makes little sense.  I think Palin was a good pick, honestly, but it won't do a d**n thing to help McCain with women.

  12. Biden won't get the vote of any Catholics I know.

  13. I honestly don't see that people "stick to the issues," as someone said earlier.  Idealists want to think that the American public will carefully sum up the character value of each ticket and choose the one that seems most capable of accomplishing the best things for the country.  But it doesn't actually work that way.  Two observations:

    1)  Many of Hillary's supporters are saying they will vote for McCain. As far as the ISSUES go, McCain and Hillary don't see eye to eye.  At all.  Meaning many of her supporters were supporting her just because she was the woman (or perhaps just because she was the Clinton, for some people) and not because they fully bought into everything she was saying she would like to do.

    2)  I don't think Biden being Catholic will earn any extra votes.  Committed Catholics are pro-life, while he isn't.  And there are MANY MANY MANY voters who make their pick based almost entirely on pro-life or pro-choice.  Most conservative Christians begin their endorsement of a candidate first by telling you they're pro-life, THEN they may start telling you a few of the candidate's other good traits or plans.

So:  Many women and pro-lifers (and others who latch onto a single "issue" as a decision-making tool) don't necessarily stick to the big, changeable issues like economic, military, foreign, security, etc.  YES, a large number of Americans vote based only on religion or gender.  It worries me.

  14. Can't see a six term Washington insider who happens to be a catholic gaining any votes after what Nancy said about church doctrine on abortion.

These democrat catholics have to worship at the alter of abortion for political reasons, wont draw votes on their non faith.

  15. As a Catholic, I could care less about those issues, they are irrelevant to the problems that this country needs to address the most. Especially the pro-choice pro life issue. It's time to let it go, I have talked to people who voted for Bush for that issue alone, poor ignorant fools, like a candidate wants to risk losing the bipartisan vote by pressing it. Politicians will make comments on it but pretty much dodge it once in office anyways. As far as women's rights, didn't we get that all straightened out in the seventies.

I vote for the man and his position on the issues alone, not the party and the issues they support as a whole.

  16. There are a lot more women voters than Catholics.  Will she get the Catholic women?

So many possibilities.  In the end PEOPLE will vote for Palin because she has experience.

  17. I doubt a pro-choser like Biden is gonna help with the Catholic vote.  If anything, it hurts him with a Catholic.

  18. Sure they would. There are a lot of people that base their opinions on gender and religion. I am not one of them, but there is a lot.
