Question:

Does this mean I have got the job?

I went for a group interview with a major Australian retailer a fortnight ago. They are opening up a new store in my area soon.

They have emailed me stating that I was successful at the interview stage now they just have to job match me and they will let me know if they can find a job match for me ( there are 150 positions ). I am unable to contact them as they don't allow that.

What's the likelihood that I don't get a job out of it?

I am worried because I have also done a trial for another job and both these employers are making up their minds in the coming days.

I don't want to turn down the job which pays less in case I haven't got the retail job.

  1. Nothing is for certain. If you can hold up on turning down the companies until you get an answer from both, you should try to do that. Options are always much better in life than no options.

  2. This might be different for different places (I'm in Canada) but if the one you don't want gives you a call first, it's ok to ask them if you could have a couple days to decide. Just ask for a number to get back to them with. If that's not the case, then accept it, but call them if you hear from the other place and tell them you've changed your mind.

Either way, good luck getting the job!

  3. Hmm, being successful at the interview stage doesn't mean success altogether at this stage, and as you've said they will let you know IF they can job match you, so nothings for sure just yet.

It's a new company so maybe they are still interviewing and trying to find employees. That said a fortnight ago is long enough. Is there no way you can go back to where you had the interview just to check on the progress.

I'd do that, at least then you can make an informed decision with regards to the other job.

    Good luck hun

  4. Not necessarily. If there are 150 jobs open then lets just guess that over 400 applied. You may not be first picks to one of the 150 jobs. Hopefully you are. Either way even if you go get it you don't necessarily have to accept it. You can always tell them to give you 24-48 hours to think about it. The way you don't stab yourself in the foot.

  5. No you don't have this job yet, they just said your interview stage was successful then when on to say, they will let you know if they can find a job for you.  With 150 positions it's seems like a strong possibility, however you can't bank on this yet.  All you can do is wait and see. If the other job offers you a job and you haven't heard back for the other one and since you can't contact them you will need to make a decision, should you take a job and later the other one offers and is a better offer you can turn down the first offer if you haven't started yet, or ask if you can have a few days to think about the offer and see if the other one calls you in that time.  Unfortunately there is no telling if or when they will call you.  You just have to make the best decision you can.

  6. It does seem like you have the job, but nothing is for sure until they offer you the position. I would keep looking, maybe even take another job if one comes along.  You can always quit the new job, if the job you want comes through.

  7. I think it's very likely you've got a job there, which one, you can't know just yet.

I'd say, you're hired, but they don't know where yet.

  8. Sounds like you got it. Congratulations
