Does this mean my bird is...?

Ok so i have 4parakeets. 2females and 2males. So i went out to buy a nesting box because i could tell the my English male budgie really likes the American female parakeet. I put the nest box right outside from the their cage and apparently my female bird knows what its for. Once in a while my female parakeet goes in the nest box and fixes the pine shavings around. Does this mean she's trying to make it comfortable just in case she's planning on laying eggs?

P.s. if you don't know the answer don't make a stupid comment.

  1. she might be pregnit alreaddy. if you have a nesting box near or in the cage they will breed. i would put the nesting box in the cage so if she is pregnit she will have her babies in a safer place then the bottem of the cage

  2. It could be.. she could be trying to make herself comfortable for sure.  It doesn't necessarily mean she's ready to lay - but if she's checking out the situation it's not a bad sign!

  3. well some people will say that is what the bird is thinking, but i believe strongly that animals aren't as smart as their owners think....in short it is instinct, an birds instinctively make little birdies.

  4. could be. some times birds pull out there tail feathers so they can sit on the net!

  5. Hi,

Yeah this probably means that she's ready to lay, but i wouldn't build your hopes up budgies are unpredictable.

Some things to look for though is that the hen will get fatter than the male around her bum as the egg is inside her, the eggs are normally laid 8 days after mating.
