My parakeet always seems to lose tiny feathers all the time its all over the cage and outside the cage. I can touch it's head and it hardly has not much feathers left. It seems to jump all around it's cage when I try to pet it. My other parakeet is fine and stays in its spot when I pet it. And the tempature is usually mild around my house. Please help me :(

  1. It's molting season. Most if not all birds in the western hemisphere are molting right now. If you're still worried then take it to a vet. In about a week feel its head and neck for hard, pointy pin feathers. Pin feathers are the new feathers growing out with a wax coating that the bird removes. Also, birds get cranky while they molt because in the wild, they're at their most vulnerable when they're losing feathers.

If your other parakeet shows now signs at all of molting then for sure, take the other one to see a vet. And take the nice parakeet to the vet as well for a comparison so that the vet doesn't tell you the same thing I just did about molting.

  2. i would take a wild guess that he is fine... but if he is showing the sick signs like sitting on the bottom of the cage, shaking, not eating or drinking, i would take him on to the vet

    good luck

    hope every thing works out

  3. It's fine my house has little feathers all over it.

  4. If it just left the nest about i month ago. It is going through molting. This is perfectly normal, every parakeet would moult at least twice a year.

However if this seems often, it is suffering from a disease. Please take it to a vet immediately if yo uhave this condition.
