Question:

Does this new 'spoiled dog' trend annoy you?

It seems like every other female celebrity (Paris, Britney) has a tiny furry arm accessory these days. People are spending more and more on their pets. I see racks full of dog clothing in every pet store that wasn't there a few years ago. Do you get annoyed when you see people buying 'bling' and clothing for their dogs? Do you think it's cute to see pampered little dogs? Or do you not care and think 'to each their own"? Just curious.

  1. I'm with Somebody Else - if having a chihuaua stops Paris Hilton from reproducing thats a good thing, surely??

I have to say that at one time I owned a spoiled dog myself - a little toy poodle.  He was a baby substitute.    Having kids of my own wasn't an option at the time - I was married to a man who didn't want children and it was a sticking point in our relationship.  So I got a poodle puppy and spoiled him like a baby - buying him little designer doggy outfits, toys, etc.  Sad maybe, but hey who was I hurting?  He died on 2004 aged 7 due to a heart attack and I can honestly say it broke my heart.  It taught me not to get so close to an animal that they become like a child ever again - animals' lives are so short and losing them is so hard when you make them your "baby" . . .

I divorced my ex and met my now husband and in November 2006 our son was born.  Since becoming a mum I know how different it is to love your own child as opposed to a dog, its not comparable really.  I do have a cute dog at the moment - a little Cavalier King Charles called Daisy-May lol!  Shes not spoiled or dressed up - I couldn't condone spending money on designer dog accessories instead of clothing/toys etc for my son - but she is very much loved.

I also agree with Van Ester - I bet Paris doesn't have to clean up the p**p, hoover up the dog hairs and take her Chih to the vets.  She treats it like a toy.

  2. It does kind of annoy me, but I recently read this blog post on the matter:

    http://jezebel.com/5042420/pampering-a-p...

It argues that an increasing number of people are choosing to get a pet and spoil it rotten rather than have children. And I think we can all agree that if having a chihuahua and spoiling it rotten prevents Paris Hilton from having children then that's a good thing.

(As long as the dogs are spayed and neutered, of course. Nothing annoys me more than people who breed their pets irresponsibly and add to the population of unwanted pets in this country who must be euthanized.)

  3. That's all the celebrities use them for. I bet they don't do the washing and they're not the ones throwing away the p**p either. The celebrities are annoying...not the dog. Don't blame the dog man.
