Reassurance

by Elaine P

In the fear-filled time

between dusk and nightfall

Whoopee awakes,

enters my space,

purrs reassurance,

“it’s all right,

the night cannot

hurt you.”

Nighttime is her territory

a time for awakening,

for joy and exploration,

yet she senses

the human’s fear,

fills the emptiness

with warmth and music;

she does not judge.

Though she cannot

see the stars,

know the vast

Universal Plan,

she offers love

in equal measure

to the love I find

in Poetry.

This is exactly how I feel about my furry children.  Just pure love.  I completely believe that dogs and cats are a gift from heaven to show us what love really should feel like.  To have such a little innocent thing trust and love you so much is a miracle in itself.  This poem warmed my heart.  I have to go hug my kitty and listen to her purr.
