Does this quote from an electrician sound about right?

My friend reccomended her oldest family friend to do my electrical work on a new room. He's retired and now does odd jobs. He will be putting in 6 outlets, a breaker, a light switch and a ceiling light. The new room is completely framed but no drywall is up yet, so all the wires are easy to get to, He said it would cost about $75 for materials and he's charging $150 for labor.

How's that sound?

I'll be using him even if he's over charging because he's my friends friend and he's retired, ya know... but I'm just curious. If it's a good deal, I'll use him for now on (we'll be finishing a basement next).

  2. Crannberr; I wish I had friends like you, very reasonable

  3. It sounds exceptionally good to me..I am a 37 year experienced painter and been around all phjases of construction in my life..I wire my own stuff up generally...This is actually about a 350.00 to 450.00 job dpending opn what area you are in..so yes..He is giving You a good deal..as long as the job is done right

  4. That is a great deal, I mean great!!!  I had a light changed to a different circuit and added a dimmer switch and it cost me $200 over a year ago.

  5. That is very cheap for what he's doing.  I guesstimate $100/ box for that type of work. Tip him another $50 when done.

  6. Sounds reasonable, but make sure he is licensed you don't want be liable for his work.. so make sure he has some kind of insurance too..
