In the book, "The Life of PI" Pi lands on an island that is made of some kind of seaweed that turns acidic at night. The island also has many trees, and a large population of meerecats on it. If there really anything like this?

  1. No, it's an imaginary setting. The author uses that island as a symbol of the garden of eden to show that things aren't what they seem. From an interview with him: "The algae island floated into my imagination from the same dark luminous place from whence came the meerkats, the Frenchman and, indeed, the novel as a whole."
