I am not a law breaker nor have I ever been arrested for anything but this type of road block seems to infringe upon my freedom. When your in a communist country and have to "show the proper paperwork" just because an authoritative figure wants to see it. I didn't think america did this type of interrogations.............http://www.sunjournal.com/story/276306-3/LewistonAuburn/Roadblock_nets_eight_OUI_arrests/

  1. I don't see what roadblocks have to do with monopolizing the means of production.

Roadblocks (and bag checks - you may have seen these in airports) are perfectly legal as long as they're done on a demonstrably random basis.

  2. If you feel that way, don't ever leave your house.

It's a public roadway and it's not 'communist', it's good police work.

Or would you rather one of those drunks not get caught and get involved in an accident with your family or your friends?

    Think about the consequences.

  3. When you applied for your drivers license, you agreed and are required to have it with you when you're driving and to produce it for any officer who asks. What you're really asking about is the road block check. It depends on where, how it's done, and why.

    com·mu·nism    /ˈkɒmyəˌnɪzəm/

    –noun

a theory or system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole or to the state.

  4. Nope not communist at all.........not even close.

The Supreme Court ruled that DWI Checkpoints are Constitutional in Michigan Dept. of State Police v. Sitz.  The Supremes decided that if a DWI Checkpoint is done properly then it's infringement on peoples rights is minimal and is far outweighed by the safety to the public (i.e. removing drunks from the road) compared to the minor inconvenience of slowing down and talking to the Officers for a moment.

Here is a link to the case so you can read it if you want:

Really if you've ever been to a fatality car crash and helped pulled the bodies out of the vehicle you probably wouldn't mind stopping for the checkpoint near as much as you seem to now.

  5. No, I'm sorry but preventing drunk driving is not Communism.

    Read some Marx please.

  6. I don't approve of this kind of dragnet because it does override the rights of innocent drivers.  On the other hand, it did net drunk drivers as well as those who were driving without the proper credentials.

And you are right.  It is reminiscent of traveling over borders in Europe before they opened them to free access.  It always looked as if it was a very tense situation for travelers!

We need more self-governing and less government meddling.  It would not surprise me if they called us all in for identification tattoos!

  7. The Supreme Court has ruled them constitutional. In a very strange opinion Chief Justice Rehnquist said it did infringe on your rights but that was ok.

I believe they violate the 4th amendment.

  8. Does this seem communist? Not in the slightest. The Police in Canada do this on a regular basis. They check for impaired driving and all manner of infractions up to and including unsafe vehicles. The only problem I have with these programs is that they don't run them often enough.

Law abiding citizens should have nothing to fear from the Police in a democracy. They are just trying to keep us from getting killed in an accident.

  9. In continuation of Mary's answer, America would be somewhat safer if the entire population were jailed. But according to the US Constitution, fading inkstains on crumbling scraps of paper, grabbing people without probable cause is illegal, although in California ever since the g*y Marriage was declared legal temporarily, I have been grabbed at several times. I suspect there may be a connection. Regards, Larry.

  10. I'm sorry but I don't see anything communist about it. They are making America safer by checking for drunk drivers, that small thing could of saved someones life that night. Would you rather they didn't check those drivers and one of them that was drunk drunk crashed into your car and killed you.

  11. Actually, it right wing conservative constitution gutting judges that allow these laws.

  12. What is with everyone throwing around communism these days? It is seemingly random: "I don't like/understand this, it - must be communist (or socialist or fascist)!"

  13. America, in it's constant search for peace and stability, has adopted many policies similar to what communists use. As more and more laws layered upon themselves over the years, America's way of fighting crime and protecting it's citizens have become very controlling, even to the point of treading over our freedoms.

Yes, though there is nothing exclusively communist about a road block and the government asking for papers, this is something that has been used a lot by communists. However, it started earlier then them. The Romans were using roadblocks and papers on for a very long time before communism.

  14. That link had nothing to do with communism.  Try researching your politics...
