Does this seem like a positive indication that I *may* get the job?

I had interview in February. It is now late April. I've followed up at least 3 times. A few weeks ago when I called I spoke to the HR manager who said that nobody was ruled out and that I was still in the running. Today I called but the HR manager was on vacation so I spoke with her assistant. She asked me what position I interviewed for and my last name. When I gave her that info she said that sometime next week they will be gathering everybody's questions and finalizing paperwork or something like that. Oh, and by the way, I was referred by an employee of that company.

My coworker said she thinks I'll get it. What do you all think?

I'd say that your chances are 50/50.  You are probably their 2nd cholce and they are waiting for their first choice to give them an answer.

Be persistent and keep calling or showing up to let them know how much you really want the job.
