Is this wording rude for a shower invitation?

I want the invite to serve the dual purposes of both inviting the guests and educating them about what type of thing to buy for this "green" baby shower. But I don't want it to sound like a greedy gift grab. Please help me fine tune this!

Baby x*x is almost due

No one knows if it’s pink or blue,

Jeff and Julie

Have decided on green,

Let’s help this baby’s footprint

Remain unseen!

It’s a couples shower!

Saturday, date of party,

6:00 p.m.

123 Rainbow Rd

Given by:

me and my spouse

Registered at baby store

Like to think outside the registry? Eco-friendly gifts such as glass bottles, cloth diapers, or organic anything, are great ideas too!

PS. I know a lot of people debate whether you should list registry information, but everyone I am inviting has listed registry info on their own baby shower invitations, so I'm going with that format. And FYI,

I'm throwing this shower for my sister-we have the same group of friends.

  1. I think it's completely appropriate and good for you on the green choices you are making.  I like the little poem and the part about the footprint makes it clear what "green" means (although for those not in the know, you may want to add carbon to footprint - but that messes with the flow).

  2. It's fine, it makes sense and if a friend sent it to me I'd understand it, it's not greedy sounding.

  3. There are numerous important considerations to remember when hosting a baby shower. One of the firsts would definitely be the baby shower invitations. These are the items you send to your guests to let them know about your party. They contain all the necessary details the people need to know when they come to your shower.

Baby shower invitations come in different forms, varying according to their forms, designs and themes. Some are simple, while others are well-decorated. Usually, these are simply printed on paper, while there are also some creative invites which come in the form of different baby items, such as bibs and baby bottles. Baby shower invitations can have various designs on them, such as pictures of babies, bassinets, and cute animals. They can be store bought or homemade.

  4. I think it is FABULOUS!!!

Great idea and the wording is REALLY cute!!!!

People will understand givien what the world is coming to now.

    Great job!!

  5. I think it's worded great! I love the little poem! It's so cute!

  6. I would just have her put glass bottles and cloth diapers on the registry if that is what she wants.  It seems silly to add that little blurb at the bottom.

Might want to add RSVP regrets only... no one seems to actually call to rsvp for showers any more...

  7. I think it sounds cute! But maybe do ??? instead of x*x,

  8. I like it but would add 'baby's eco-footprint' just because it took me a second to go "ohhh not the colour green, but eco-green". (We had chosen the colour green for our baby room and wanted greens and browns instead of yellows.)

If they have picked a specific brand/type of cloth diaper (which I had) then maybe throw that in there too so people aren't buying all sorts of weird diaper products that they might not find suitable. (You can even say you're taking donations to the diaper-fund for the purchase of cloth diapers instead of suggesting a particular brand?)  I had put on my registry "Please no diapering products as we are using BumGenius!" but that was on my end, not on shower invites.

I think the addition of "like to think outside of the registry" is a good idea, some people are confused as to what eco-friendly means/is.

The odds are people will buy outside the registry, but everyone knows that it's a good guideline - even if you don't specifically buy from that store. If they do get doubles or things they don't find suit them, as long as you know the store, the odds are they will take it back and provide store credit. I had doubles of a few things, and a few things I wouldn't use, and no store gave me ANY issues when I brought it to them without a receipt, telling them it had been a baby shower gift.

Providing the registry info is always a good idea, either the actual registry number, or just the store. I've never seen a shower invite without that info and always found it useful to get an idea of what they wanted, or to pick something directly from it. Most people are able to update it online, so after each shower you could see what they did/didn't have before the next.

Good luck with the shower :)

  9. it could just be me, but it sort of sounds like green as in give money.

or that i should wear green to the party.

or that you are guys are envirementalist and want to keep things green.

    or green as in neutral.

just do a standard green colored nvitation, add the eco-friendly request on the registry.

  10. I think it sounds great! Although if youre guests are anything like mine they are going to ignore the whole registry stuff anyway. Most people got me random things that really ended up being a waste of their money when they could have bought something we really wanted on the registry. I know its the thought that counts, but some people just do things their way. The wording sounds good though, it is by no means rude. I like that you put, "like to think outside the registry" and then put some suggestions. That should help! Good luck.

  11. I not only think it is appropriate but an adorable way of being green!

  12. I have to agree the part about the footprint is odd. I would delete this part-

    "Let’s help this baby’s footprint

    Remain unseen!"

    and this part-

"Like to think outside the registry? Eco-friendly gifts such as glass bottles, cloth diapers, or organic anything, are great ideas too!"

I don't think people will get confused about the meaning of green because you referenced pink or blue before it!

  13. It sounds fine to me. Because you still give them the option of the regular registry gifts of eco friendly gifts. You didn't really state ask for any in specific so it's not greedy.
