Does this sound good, and what would you add or change?

I'm thinking of trying to make some pasta tonight going to go to the store after work and buy the things I need...

I'm thinking...

Bow Tie Pasta,

I'll add some salt, pepper and maybe a tiny bit of garlic,

Red Tomato based sauce,

Some mushrooms,

Italian Sausage or maybe some kielbasa,

I'll likely throw in some chopped stewed tomatoes to give the store bought sauce some freshness,

Some diced peppers and onions....

Any other ideas on how to make it taste good?

  1. Sounds like you are working in my kitchen with me!! I do things like that alot of the time.

Add some garlic bread and a salad and you have the perfect meal for "fast" food.

  2. You can add some basil and oregano ( a bit of dry oregano goes a long way, so use a light touch of it). I like to add onions and actual cloves of garlic, ( if that's to much garlic taste, take the garlic out after a simmering for a little bit) . I also like black olives in my red sauce as well.

Add some field greens with olive oil and garlic bread and you've got yourself a yummy meal!

  3. well i dont like tomatoe sause soooooo  ...But I make a really simular dish but I use fresh tomatoes not canned and I use a basil oil sause or buy pesto itl sausage in frying pan peppers onions bit of salt garlic sooo good sorry if this dnt help

  4. I usually add a little sugar in my sauce.

    Garlic bread

  5. Parsley!!

    Or other herb!!

  6. Sounds great...what time should i be over? LOL

Rather than a store bought tomato sauce. Try my quick 25 minute marinara.  I make it all the time.  My Italian great-grandma (right off the boat) showed me how.  Just get a can of chopped tomatoes or whole peeled tomatoes. I like Cento or Tuttorossa (spelling?)  Add a tablespoon or two of olive oil to a pot, chop some garlic long ways (gets out more flavor) toss that in.  Chop a red pepper and onion and toss in.  Once that sizzles up, about 5 minutes, dump in your can of tomatoes.   add salt pepper, parsley.  Simmer for about 20 minutes.  If you have a hand held blender use that to puree marinara to a desired consistency.  Turn heat off first before you do that.  If not just mash with a potato masher.

Do this and you can say you made it all yourself!

  7. Slice up your sausage and cook in a skillet (If you use keilbasa, it's already cooked; if you use ital sausage, it's raw, so adjust cooking times)

When fat has been cooked out of meat, add your onions and peppers, saute until wilted and they have a little color.  Add mushrooms, sautee.... add fresh tomatoes, cook a bit... then add red sauce, salt, pepper, garlic.  A dash of red wine is nice at this point, too.

Then toss w/ hot cooked pasta and serve w/ parm. chz.

  8. Don't add sauce make your own like a can of dice tom add italian season and garlic onions all to taste that's all to sauce you can buy a jar of Italian season all mixed together and you will always make your own sauce its easy and well worth it and you made your own add some mushrooms to.

  9. Green onions, pepperoni, parmesan cheese, olive oil, serve with cheesey bread sticks or garlic bread.

  10. Don't forget your Italian seasoning, basel, parsley, oregano, fresh or dried. Some Italian garlic bread. My grandparents came from Italy so sometimes I also use octopus's or ox tails for meat flavor. It makes a very good sauce. And we also cook it a long long time on low, that helps to take the acid out of the tomatoes.

  11. It sounds pretty good as is!
