Okay, here I go... so you probably have heard of Barbizon, right?

Well my friend and I were looking for a modeling agency. She really thought it was a good idea, so she entered my name and number in the Barbizon website with my permission. I recently turned 17 and I'm going into my junior year of High school at a Performing arts Academy, the one in Ocean County NJ. And apparently I have what it takes to be a male model, I have acting experience, I'm a tall and on the thin side, confident, and different, and that she thought I had manners, and liked talking to me, and that I look older, and cute or whatever way you put it. Any way that's what the Barbizon lady said at the interview. Everyone I ask, and when I ask someone something, I make sure that they know that I'd rather have the truth over a lie, Trust me, I know. So the lady was very nice and talkative, and it seemed like she was picking the right words to say to me and my mom, while still being honest. She basically said that It was a School with an agency and that before I do any thing I have to take a few classes which altogether would cost $700(and you could stretch it out on a payment plan). She said I don't need confidence self help training and that all I needed was to learn how to be a model and I kinda agree, even though I'm an actor, I still need to learn how to be a model for it is something new. It makes sense right, I mean why would an agency sign you if you didn't take any modeling classes? I love acting and anything with art and am almost willing to do anything to be an actor, except pose nude and some other things...So my mom thinks Barbizon is legit, but that they also want to fill their classes, and she thinks it would be good to do it senior year (I heard that junior year is hectic). My mom thinks the lady Honestly does like me and that all of what the lady said was not "too over exaggerated" if you know what I mean. Oh and the lady said that her Barbizon wasn't part of IMT or whatever it was that people say is illegitimate. So well I guess that sums it up. One thing is for sure, if you ever need your confidence to be lifted or feel really good, go to that kind of interview. So what do you think?

And thanks for taking the time to read and respond.

  1. The first thing I recommend for anyone who is approached or wants to act or model.

    Read everything at

    www.agentassociation.com

Have your parents read it to.

    Best of Luck.

  2. That is not legit!!

  3. Barbizon would tell a one eyed toad with warts it was pretty if it would make money.  Run and don't waste the money.

  4. Go find an agent, give the money to them. (It's their job to find you jobs).

  5. Sorry. Barbizon IS indeed a scam, designed to separate you from your money. A real talent agency does not charge you a dime until AFTER you have gotten work through them.

  6. Save your money! Put the money into a good photographer for "head-shots". Then buy "Back-Stage" or go into NYC and buy just a coffee at ANY sidewalk cafe. Modeling agents are walking the streets. looking for natural talent. Carry a portfolio, and be ready to audition.

  7. It doesn't sound legit to me anything where you have to pay to get a job usually isn't. Talk to people that have been through Barbizon there and ask for references.
