so off and on for a little over three months i've had random and slight pain on the right side directly below my ribcage. i haven't had a fever or anything, and the pain isn't sharp. it's like a dull ache. if it's not appendicitis, what else could it be that would stay so long?

  1. sounds more like a strain or cramps (yes, much like the kind you get from exercising) than something related to an organ.

If it were an organ, you'd be close with the appendix but much much lower in proximity--closer to the hip flexor.  The liver/gallbladder is the organ of concern in that particular area.  But you may have diaphragmatic pain due to coughing or over other stress to the area ie. rib pain (yes there are muscles throughout that area).

I'd suspect organ pain if you suggested problems with medication or pain after eating.

  2. Gallbladder maybe..

  3. No.

Your appendix is MUCH lower ... just about inside your hip bone.  And appendicitis isn't a dull ache.  It's PAIN ... if you'd been having appendicitis pain, you'd have gone to the hospital in agony 3 months ago!

It could be your gallbladder ... or it might be irritable bowel syndrome.  IBS pain can come and go, and can range from mild to severe.  IBS is like a cramping, squeezing pain.

Also ... your liver is on the right side, just under your ribs.

In any case, you should probably see a doctor and have it checked out.  I'm almost positive it's NOT appendicitis, but whatever it is, pain is not normal ... so something in there needs to be looked at and treated!

  4. www.webmd.com   that's the best place I know,, go the symptom checker. Sometimes stuff lie cancer or rare diseases come up.. don't assume that's what it is. In most cases it'll be the simplest one on the list.

  5. It's not appendicitis because appendicitis would not linger for 3 months without your appendix actually rupturing.  And you would have constant sharp pain in the right side of your abdomen.  It really wouldn't come and go.

It could be your gallbladder?  The pain would still be on the right side and could come and go.  It usually is worse after meals, esp. ones that are fatty.

  6. It may be that or a bladder infection, do you drink alot of soda? That can cause Appendicitis as well. I suggest (if you can stomach it) drink cranberry juice, now it is very hard to find 100% cranberry juice, if you read the ingredients on most they are low %'s of actual juice, and some have very little cranberry juice at all, so you need one with 100% juice-go to a health food store if you can get to one, and get it there.

If you cannot drink cranberry juice, get some cranberry pills, I prefer AZO brand, I can usually find them at Wal Mart. If you cannot find that brand, read the back of others that are available, the brands that require you to take the least amount are the best, lower quality ones want you to take more, because of their poor quality their is less concentration of cranberry in them so you need more to see results.

Orange juice will also help in addition to the cranberry, simple orange is a good brand.

Try these, and it should take care of your problems, I drink alot of soda and hav a re-occuring problem, and this is what helps me. Good luck!
