My rats staple diet is made up of Peters rat and mouse mix (ingredients: Wheat, Sorghum, Crushed maize, Crushed lupins, Black sunflower seed, Lucerne chaff, Oaten chaff and soyabean meal) I have also started to include Rat cubes/blocks (ingrediants not listed) and some of subee`s rat diet (it includes of museli, dried pineapple, oats, dried pasta, puffed rice and puffed wheat).

I also feed my rats fresh fruits and/or vegetables daily.

These are the fruits and vegetbales I feed them:

Broccoli

Apple

Banana

Carrots

Celery

Potato

Brussel Sprouts (only if I have a roast dinner)

peas

Sweetcorn

Cauliflower

Grapes

I am also thinking about giving tomatoes and blueberries.

I also feed them other food like whole grain toast or bread, baby food (different flavours), leftover table scraps, some cooked lean meats, yogurt drops, cereal, dried fruit and vegetbale mix (contains peanuts but try only giving her 1-2 when I feed her it), cheese, cooked pasta with tasty sauce etc.

  1. Their diet seems fine apart from baby food and the pasta.

They may like it but it could be bad for them

  2. I'm not diggin' it myself. The staple diet there has dried corn and sunflower seeds in it for one. Dried corn is something you don't want in your food since feed grade dried corn can carry mycotoxins.

Honestly, the ONLY commercial rat diet I'd ever recommend would be Oxbow's Regal Rat. All the others are really crappy.

I'd just stick with complete Suebee's mix (including the Total cereal and a high quality, low protein and fat dog food) if you can't get Oxbow's Regal Rat.

The rest sounds okay though. Here's some more fruit and veggie suggestions from my website. Remember, rats should ideally get daily veggies and fruits once or twice a week (fruits are higher in sugar).

  5. WOW, your rat has a good life!

Looks OK, but consider that Rats are omnivorous, meaning they will eat everything, if given the chance.

If you remember to feed your rat, BEFORE it gets hungry, then it knows what it likes, and will not eat the things that are not good for it.

    They just know.
