I'm doing my assignment for sociology (gender) and my subject is marketing toys and video games to boys and girls. I made my hypothesis like this does it sound ok?

"Through marketing of toys and video games children are influenced to take on their societies gender roles."

Is there another way of saying that another way? It doesn't feel very flowy to me! Also any ideas for questions?

Also I'm making a survey on it and i want to compare the thoughts of people with children to those that don''t have any children, do you guys think I should post it on yahoo, would you guys do it if i posted the survey and had people send it to my email? (my yahoo one which i don't use)

  1. The marketing of toys and video games influences children to adopt societal gender roles.

Sounds like a good idea.  Make sure as far as the Y!A survey goes that you verify it first with your Professor.  (Each university has different rules regarding what is considered 'ethical' research procedures.)

    Good luck!

P.S.  If you do post your survey on Y!A, send me a link...I have four sons and a vast knowledge of toys (lol).

  2. Here's another phrasing. "Boys will always like pyrotechnics and action. Girls will always like dolls and cooking. It's the way we're programmed."

  3.    Try this,---------------" Through marketing toys and video games, children are influenced to accept society's gender roles for them." When spelled the other way (societies) it means more than 1 society.
