Does this sound like a lay-off may be coming?

I work for a staffing firms that deals with strictly IT contractors. Our major vendor was IBM, because they use a lot of contractors. Last week we all found out that we lost our spot as a Prime Vendor for IBM. We are now sub-vendor and IBM will tell us who we will be going through.

We have some new sales people that are supposed to look for other businesses that will need our people. The problem is that right now the economy isn't doing so well and places are cutting back.

I work in billing so my boss says I won't be affected however I can't help but think that I will be affected.

Does it sound like a lay-off will be coming down the road for me and my department? There are only 4 of us.

Any thoughts?

  1. Probably not. Sales will be the first to go, then administrative support like secretaries and the like. Also, higher paid executives, but not the REAL high paid ones. If the economy does not improve, then you will have to worry.

  2. It will probably be a few months before they do anything but this is what our economy is going through right now.
