do these symptoms sound like a mental illness? i have a... friend.. who has these and i'm kind of starting to worry.

~ having a voice inside your head other than your own who you have conversations with. sometimes it physically hurts the head.

~ being kind of anti - social. i mean not so much that you never leave home, but really hate talking to people and really like being alone.

~ sometimes talking to empty chairs because you imagine people are there. mostly famous people to.

~ constantly worry that people can read your mind, including your own mom.

  1. No. Unless it is completely debilitating you, I'd say it just sounds like someone with a rather ... colorful ... personality. Also sounds like a person who's very, very lonely.

  2. yes if you are serious, get the mental health professionals to look at it.

  3. definitely sounds like there is a bit of schizophrenia?  i mean there's paranoia, having voices and talking to them, and the anti-social (a little bit)

i don't know about the chairs thing, if you really think they're there then it's illness,  but if you're just playing make-believe it's not...

  4. umm...ya I would have that checked out...

  5. sounds like schizophennia.  i would tell your 'friend' to get checked out.

  6. Mandy,

Yes, this collection of symptoms would suggest you have your friend see a psychiatrist right away. I suggest a psychiatrist because if your friend is diagnosed with a mental illness, the doctor can prescribe medicines, if necessary, right away, to help alleviate the symptoms. A psychologist can make the diagnosis, but must refer patients to psychiatrists for prescriptions.

  7. Your friend probably should seek psychological counseling first, then if the Psychologist thinks it is more, then a Psychiatrist for medical help.

I'm a Gemini. I talk to myself out loud and answer myself all day long.

You friend needs to understand, with the help of you, that it is IMPOSSIBLE for anyone to read their mind.  So tell him or her to relax about that.  That is more along the lines of paranoia, and it doesn't belong in the everyday world.

Also, talking to empty chairs is "make-believe".  Yeah, it is excessive, but I'm not sure it belongs to a personality disorder.  It isn't normal, but I'm not sure how destructive.

The voices inside his/her head can be a schizophrenia disorder, and that's the part your friend needs to talk to the Psychologist about.  I would have your friend take a list to a Psychologist to review.  See what is reasoned out, and what is valid.  He/She may have a couple of items unresolved in one setting with a Psychologist, but I think the list will be much smaller.

  8. This definitely sounds like schizophrenia. Your friend seems to be living in her mind more than the outside world. These "people" she's talking to are just figments of her imagination. Perhaps you can help that person out.

  9. i've once knew this state of "mental illness" and try to solve it by separating the person from his/her present environment (to make some thought refreshments)

then give him/her the different (a d.i.y. kind of matters) task/ s from his/her presently task/s. and it helps after being separated about one or two months.

but makes a preparational efforts for his/her mental acceptances that s/he has to be back again to the recently environment that s/he has left.

note: the place of the environment where s/he has to make some refreshments, not necessarily a "nice and calm" ones.

  10. If  you are serious, yes,  this is a matter for the mental health authorities to look at.

  11. That's not good..Is the unsociable behavior recent or has she always been like that? If it's recent, that's Social Withdrawal, a symptom of Schizophrenia. Hearing voices inside the head and talking to imaginary people are hallucinations and more symptoms of Schizophrenia.

Does her parents know she is behaving strangely, too? Make sure she isn't just trying to get attention. Tell her parents, try to get her into therapy.

  12. i'm not a professional or anything so i really dont like to give advice but in this case i think you need to "tell your friend" to go see someone as soon as possible..!!!!

  13. No I think this person is just a complete moron

  14. is this person age 13-16? that was me when I was a teenager and now I'm over it. I had all those same things and I'm now 33 and perfectly ok.

  15. Is good to check up with the psychatrist....

    Not a normal sympton
