Before I say anything.. i'm 14 almost 15 and im a boy.

I've had trouble getting to sleep for a while now so its not a recent thing. It's the school holidays and usually i'll go up to bed between 11pm and 2am. I can't get to sleep without going on my laptop first to watch a movie or something on BBC iPlayer or 4oD in bed. Without doing that my mind will be thinking about negative stuff which makes me feel angry/upset/annoyed. Sometimes I won't get to sleep until about 4 or 5 in the morning and end up waking between 12 and 3 in the afternoon.

On school nights I try to get to bed between 9:30 - 10pm and I can't get to sleep without listening to the radio in bed (my parents take away my laptop because they know I go on it when im supposed to be in sleeping). Sometimes i'll be listening to that until 1am and I only get five and a half hour sleep because I have to wake up at 6:30 to catch the train in time for school.

All of this happens on a regular basis, not just once or twice a week. I'm missing out a lot on socialising with my friends because of this and i'm tired all the time at school.

  1. There are other things you can do to help before you turn to tablets. I tried Nytol and it didn't make me sleep - but it made me dizzy for most of the next day.

Most importantly, lots of physical exercise during the day - this will help with the negative thinking and also help you to sleep. Do give it a try, because you'll be surprised at how much difference it makes when you go to bed.

Milk before you go to bed is meant to help you sleep too, though personally I never noticed a difference.

  2. This Could Be A Form Of Insomnia But There Are Other Factors That Could Contribute To Not Sleeping Too Well.

Are You Drinking Tea/Coffee/Coke/Pepsi Or Anything Else With Caffeine In It Up To 3hrs Before Trying To Sleep?

Are You Drinking Enough Water During The Day, But Not Too Much Close To BedTime?

    Are You Worried About Anything?

Playing Games, Or Watching TV Also Doesn't Help As It Doesn't Give Your Brain A Chance To Wind Down

Best Idea - Maybe Boring To You - But Try And Read A Book For Half Hour Before Bed, Nothing Too Complicated, Just A Run Of The Mill Fiction Book

    Hope That Helps

  3. This does sound like you have insomnia, you should go to your doctor and see what he suggests. I also suggest you try 'Nytol' its a sleeping pill and is very effective, I've used it before, I have the same problem as you except I don't need to watch something to get to sleep.

I hope this help, don't stress too much about this because you wont be able to sleep!

    Goodnight.
