Does this sound realistic?

part of the plot to my story involves a guy writing for magazine or newspaper articles then he gets more notice so he can get his book sold. sound realisitic? and if so... what is the best way for him to get in contact with the magazines or newspapers to write those articles?

Editor Email. He might go to a news agency and ask how he can send his info and then might receive an adress after which he would Email them back with the subject of his articles. News Paper in this case a small one.
