Question:

Does this sound right to you? (preschool question)?

My daughter goes to a cooperative preschool, where the parents stay. There are 3 activity stations, but only 1 or 2 kids can be there at a time. They have to do each station whether they like it or not and it only takes about 20 min to go through all the stations. Sometimes there's like 4 kids waiting at a station. My 4 yr old is very bored and frustrated with this. If she wants to paint again, she can't because someone else is painting, for example. She just sits in the corner and looks sad. I feel awful because I can't afford anything else. Should I take her out or should I keep her in for the socializing? And should I talk to the teacher about it or will she be offended? Maybe this is how preschool is supposed to be?

  1. 1st, talk to the teacher, she shouldn't be offended you are just trying to find a solution that works for her class and your daughter.

2nd, has she made any friends in the class yet? if you decide to take her out you could always have play dates with her friends from class even if she isn't attending preschool.

i don't really understand completely what is going on here, or how she runs her class with these stations, but if your daughter is unhappy that outweighs the need for socializing in this setting. preschool should be something kids enjoy to set up a good foundation of wanting to learn and enjoying school.

  2. I have never heard of this in a pre-school, it sounds more like a strictly run play group.

If it was me I would take her out, no point her going if she does not enjoy it. And it is not like you can leave her there with out you, so why should you pay for your daughter to have a miserable time??

I am in Australia and we have play group where mums go and have some morning tea and all the kids play, some are more strict with the arts and craft, but you can go and test a few out.

Do they have something similar where you are?
