Question:

Does this statement from Murphy (Packers President) seem more for Favre or against?

This statement to me looks like Favre will be starting week #1.

Mark Murphy's statement

"Sixteen years after Brett Favre came to the Packers, he is returning for a seventeenth season. He has had a great career with our organization and although we built this year around the assumption that Brett meant what he said about retiring, Brett is coming back. We will welcome him back and turn this situation to our advantage.

"Frankly, Brett’s change of mind put us in a very difficult spot. We now will revise many actions and assumptions about our long-term future, all predicated on Brett’s decision last March to retire. As a result of his decision, we invested considerably in a new and different future without Brett and we were obviously moving in that direction. That’s why this wasn’t easy. Having crossed the Rubicon once when Brett decided to retire, it’s very difficult to reorient our plans and cross it again in the opposite direction – but we’ll put this to our advantage.

"Brett will be in camp tomorrow. Although there has been uncertainty regarding Brett’s return, Ted Thompson and Coach McCarthy had previously discussed this and have had a plan in place. Coach McCarthy will talk to the team and the quarterbacks about the plan moving forward, and after he has done that we will share it publicly.

"No matter what, I look forward to another successful season for the Packers and our fans. This has been a tough situation, but the Packers will make the most of it."

  1. Against. It's like he's trying to be politically correct in his criticisms of Brett's decision making.

"Frankly, Brett’s change of mind put us in a very difficult spot. We now will revise many actions and assumptions about our long-term future....."

This pretty much says it all. I think the should have embraced Brett coming back or granted him his release. Now they just need to make a fast trade to end the situation.

  2. They are stuck with what they are stuck with--And they can't do much about it. When he says they will use it for their advantage, they have said Aaron is the starting QB and I think they will stick to it!! I don't see what you see in it as far as Brett starting #1 this week..Unfortunetly BOTH sides are doing what is best for them and forgetting the fans.

  3. its arrons turn brett shouldnt have retired how wood u like if u got promoted at ur job but lost it cause some guy changed his mind ino i woodnt like it at all

  4. I would say against him. Why, well here is what I think. They will keep him up until they are bound to pay him his full salery. They will keep him through August and trade him just before game 1 of the regular season. This way they will be able to trade him to a NFC North rival and they will have little time for him to get used to there offense. The packers in the end will end up with the better deal cause they will likely get a decent draft pick for a QB that may be his last season or two. On the downside, by having him around, may cause unneaded drama within the franchise. But it has come to that. They might as well get somthing for him.

A few weeks I would have never said this, but I would place a good bet that he will be traded to the Vikings. They seem to be the only team that is willing to give a decent draft pick for him, and if the pack trades him late, he will not be able to play the opening game against them. Which is what the packers do not want. The packers have already contacted the vikings and said a trade may be possible now. The Vikings seem to be happy with has been QB's anyway, look at Randall Cunningham, Jim McMahon, Warron Moon, Jeff George.

Anyway Brett Favre at 39 would fit in perfect. So I say give him to them and take the highest draft pick you can get. And trade him late in the game so he can do as little dammage as possible. IE not play against GB on game 1.

  5. for favre

  6. well when he said that they will put the situation to their advantage its gotta mean brett will start bc you dnt have and advantage starting aaron rodgers over brett. brett gives you the best chance to win now. and if what they said on sportscenter yesterday is true bout the packers opening up the quarterback race then brett will win it back. so yeah if they keep him and dnt trade him then yeah brett will be the starter
