Question:

Does this type of amplifier exist?

I have a 5.1 surround sound card in my desktop. I've acquired some top of the line Denon speakers. One center, two front, two rear, and a sub.

I want an amplifier that can use the standard surround sound output from a sound card (using the three headphone sized jacks; one for the front speakers, one for the rear speakers, and one for the sub/center speakers)

Does one of these exist? I'm not worried about cost particularly, so any ideas will do!

The speakers use the standard "two straggly bits of wire that clip into the back of an amp" interface (I'm pretty sure that's not the technical name)

Thanks in advance for help.

  1. You would need to use a 3.5mm to RCA converter then connect the RCA cables to the external inputs on any receiver equipped with 5.1/7.1 external inputs. The phono type connects carry two channels signals (ie: FR/FL, Center/Sub, SR/SL). You could also use a 5 channel amplifier (eg: http://www.emotiva.com/xpa5.html). The speakers then connect to the receiver or amp. Some sound cards have an optical or coaxial output put so you could just run one cable to a receiver. Pretty much all receivers out their will have an optical and/or a coaxial input.
