  1. I think its a big lie. Both Ali and Klitschko have photographs floating around where they apprently shadow box underwater. But its all aesthetics. I think cable pullies and other such resistance excersizes are used for this.

  2. It builds speed (like using a doughnut in the batter's box), power, and endurance. It is one of the best calesthenics you can do. Rocky Marciano used to train that way.

  3. its not for speed. Its like any water based exercise, generally used for some sort of conditioning, low impact cross training or rehabilitating injury etc.

Speed is developed by correct technique, then using your whole body in the right combination of movements as fast as you can to get faster.

In water you do not have the same combination of footwork/bodyweight as land, and are not ever moving fast enough to increase useful boxing speed anyway.

  4. i have no idea but im going to try it next im swimming lol

  5. This was a hoax that was perpetrated by Ali.

While he was still Cassius Clay, he purportedly used the ruse to land his photo on the cover of Time (or Life) magazine.  I believe the photo was taken by Joe Toreno.

Later in his career Ali would admit to the ruse.

However, resistance training IS used to increase handspeed, but there are better methods than shadow boxing under water.

  6. i don't know about other boxers, but just shadow box while holding weights.

  7. it sure does.. but the best boxing practice would be shadow boxing.. that said will make u box faster..
