  3. No, it was just in contrast to earlier this week. Economic indicators show how the economy goes - there are all sorts of them - the market just reacts, it doesn't signal or make decisive action purely on it's own.

  4. If the 2nd quarter growth (April to June) is higher than the 1st quarter, then, you can say, the recession is over. I think the 2nd quarter data is not yet out. A recession takes place when three consecutive quarters are negative in terms of economic growth. So, you see it in terms of quarters (four times a year) not just in a single day of trading. Although the stock market is an indication of how the economy is performing, you have to see if it is generally upward for the past few months.
