haha, as long as you know who all of your facebook friends are, it shouldn't matter......you're shallow when you start friending people you don't know just to get the number of friends you have to be higher

It doesn't mean you're shallow. It either means you need comfort in knowing 500 people are your "friends" so you can be popular, you are so bored that you need 500 friends to keep you entertained, or you're making up for real world loneliness by adding 500 people.

There's no real optimal number. Probably atleast 20-30. Everyone seems to always shoot for atleast 100 though.
