Question:

Does towing a small U-Haul trailer damage your car?

I'm moving to MD which will be 7 hours away by car, and I was thinking of towing a small U-haul trailer with my Honda Accord. I have heard in the past that any towing can do irreparable damage to the car, is that true? What do I need to be careful about?

  1. It depends on the trailer.

U-haul rents very, very small class 1 trailers that most cars can pull with little problem, but they're not very big and can't handle much cargo. If that's the kind trailer you looking to rent, you're Accord should be okay. If you rented anything bigger (class 2 trailer or larger), it would probably be too much for your Honda.

Here all the trailers they rent:

  2. pulling a trailer with any small vehicle is hard on it those wasn't meant to haul trailers with,id rent a u-haul to do the hauling with you could risk getting out on the highway and loosing a transmission on it,they wont pull much weight, good luck.

  3. your transmission will be stressed and could overheat. probably not worth pulling stuff with a honda accord.

  4. DONT FILL THE TRAILER UP WITH ALOT OF HEAVY S#IT

  5. This depends on what uhaul trailer you're talking about.. If you're talking about one of their huge box trailers, then no way will your accord survive.  But their small trailers can be towed by an accord or even a smaller vehicle in the case of the pod trailers..  I would recommend you inspect the trailer yourself before driving any long distances with it, as U-Haul are notorious for safety issues and for not doing any maintenance on their equipment.

  6. Keep the total towing weight under 1000 lbs and you should be okay.  Know the weight you are towing even if you have to go to a public scale site. You could also put a transmision cooloer on the veicle. That will help a lot in the summer.
