Does true love ever fade?

I had a friend once whom told me that when you truly love someone you fall in love with a part of the person that is whole and true, and if it was real love that you'd experienced than you will always love that person, because the part of the person that you fell in love with was real and it will forever stay constant inside them, therefore you will always love the person in some regard, whether it be subconsious or not. Do you agree with this statement?
