Does using a digital tuner for ur tv that ISNT digital have bad reception?

cause come february when all the TVs go digital, i have have to get a digital tuner so that my tv can still work. but would the reception look bad?

  1. No.  The image might infact look better.  If you have "snowy" local channels or channels that are hard to pick up you will now be able to see them very clearly and at the best resolution (480i) that your old tv can produce.  


  2. As far as "bad reception" is concerned, it doesn't matter if you have a converter box on an old TV or a expensive HDTV. The tuners in the better converters like the Zenith DTT901 are just as good as the best built in tuners.

    As to what kind of reception you get, it will probably be a lot better than what you are used to or a lot worse.

    If you get decent analog reception with your current antenna, then you will probably get a much better digital picture.

    If you  get lousy reception now, you will probably get annoying breakups with digital reception using your current antenna.

    The change on 2/17/09 is not that "all the TVs digital". The change is that most of the old analog transmitters will be shut down. Most areas already have digital broadcasts. It a good idea to get a converter early and see if you need a better antenna for digital. In most cases you will not want to switch back to analog once you see the digital quality for yourself.
