Does using an LCD TV as a computer monitor shorten its lifetime more than watching TV from a cable box?

I have an LCD TV and my father has the idea that I cant use it as a monitor because it will shorten its lifetime. But is using it as monitor via (VGA) affect it anymore then using an input from a cable box or DVD player? please provide some type of proof because he is very stubborn, and I want to use this huge TV as a monitor!

It does not matter what input you use, but the more you use it, you definitely shorten its life.
