  1. Cruise control maximizes your MPG.

Forget all those "SAVE GAS" scams.  This was on NBC morning TV show.   The difference is as much as 38% (their claim).  There are very simple rules to save gas:

    (1) drive slow - not too much past 55

    (2) accelerate slowly

    (3) don't brake unnecessarily

    (4) use cruise control - whenever it is safe to do so.

Don't coast - it is NOT safe (to coast in Nuetral) and it does NOT save gas.  It only saves gas, if you are planning to slow down (exiting, tolls, traffic).  Coasting then accelerating again is LESS efficient than just cruising.

The above really works. Using those simple rules I was able to drive from Boston to NYC (210.5 miles) on just 5.112 gallon (94 Civic).  That's 41 MPG (94 Civic 187K miles).  Actually I was speeding at 72 MPH so I could do even better at 55.

    WOW !!

    Good Luck...

  2. ir can save you gas in some situations, and lose gas in others.  Say you are coming up on a truck, you can left off and ride along behind him for a while saying gas, but if the cc is on, you will sail right past him, also on hills, the cc wants to accelerate up the hill and maintain the speed, but if you turn it off and let the car slow down a little while climbing it will save and youi will regain your speed down the other side..

you can get much information in this website, kindly stay a minute in website and check anyone link at a time, and you can aslo get your question answer in Google Search in this website, which has already helped me very much.

  4. yea it can improve you gas mileage by staying at a constant speed.

  5. Cruise control will save you fuel, except in hilly country, where you're better off just kind of "rolling with the tide".  Let your vehicle pick up a little speed going down hills (safely), and let it slow a bit going uphill.  If you reasonably can, with an automatic transmission, go easily enough on the gas pedal when traveling uphill so that the transmission doesn't downshift.  The old saying is, "Drive as though there was an egg between your foot and the gas pedal".

Aside from the hilly drives, the cruise control will save you fuel, and maintaining a constant speed can also be safer.

  6. As somewhat of an expert in automotive engineering (i hold an MSc in it) i can say that the use of cruise control does effect your MPG but in a negative way.

Yes staying at a constant speed is a good way to increase your MPG and cruise control would be fine if every road in the world was flat and level, however it is not and resistance from different road surfaces, weather and all sorts of other things causes problems.

The reason for this is that most cruise control systems work by operating your throttle control for you in order to stay at a regular speed, as your speed drops the cruise control opens up the throttle incrementally until the speed is brought back to its correct state. The problem is that because cruise control doesn't know about hills or different conditions it will start to 'feather' the throttle. This is to say keep coming on and off it in order to balance your speed. You might not feel it while driving but it is doing it.

This can seriously effect the fuel efficiency of your engine as it needs a constant and smooth throttle operation in order to work its best. Ultimately only humans at this point and provide this.
