Does using the "Hold" switch on an iPod lead to longer or shorter battery life

Question

If, when I'm not using my iPod and it's just sitting on my desk with no risk of accidentally being turned on, is it better for the battery to flip the "hold" switch, or will it make no difference?

since there is no chance of turning it on then it shouldn't make much difference
