Does vehicles have to be certified/saftied in the U.S?

in Canada your vehicle has to be certified before you get insurance for it. is it the same in the U.S? i am just wondering because i saw a car ad, and asked if the car was certified and i don't think the person really knew what i meant...

  1. Universally you only need registration and a tag. States vary on if they require an inspection. Not all states require an inspection.  


  2. No it does not have to be certified but depending on what part of the U.S. you are talking about, many of them will need to be both smog checked and inspected so that they are road worthy…..
