  1. No. Pink eye is a contagious eye infection. You need to see a doctor so you can get the proper antibiotics to treat it. It will continue to get worse until you get proper medical treatment.

  2. No,  You need to use warm soaks and get opthalmic antibiotic drops and use it in both eyes to prevent the other eye from becoming infected

  3. Non-prescription "artificial tears" type of eye drops may help relieve itching and burning but other types of eye drops could irritate your eye and should not be used. DO NOT use same bottle of drops on uninfected eye!!

    There are two different types of "pink eye"...

    Viral & bacterial... both of which are EXTREMELY contagious!

    You need to see a doctor to diagnose which one you have, if you do have the bacterial pink eye you will need prescription antibiotic eye drops, which will kill the bacteria.

    Somethings you can do to help are:

    a warm or cold compress, use a different one for each eye and make sure you clean it after use to prevent spreading

    When cleaning your eye wipe from the inside of your eye (near your nose) to the outside, be sure to use a different section of wash cloth as to not wipe drainage back into eye, place wash cloth immediately into laundry, so it is not used by someone else, if using a tissue throw it away after use.

    DO NOT wear make up or contacts, could spread infection

    Wash your hands good and often

    Wash your bed linens, pillowcases and towels in hot water and detergent

    If you have camomile tea bags, they help reduce swelling by placing over your eye for about 15 minutes.

    {{ You really do need to be properly diagnosed by a doctor, if left unchecked and is bacterial you can really do damage to your eye }}

    Also, until symptoms show improvement, or in cases of bacterial pink eye, you have been on the prescription antibiotic eye drops for 24 hours, you should NOT go to school or work.

    Hope this helps! Good luck!

  4. NO! pink eye is typically a viral infection which needs to resolved on its own.  Visine may make it feel worse.  Keep your hands clean so you don't transfer the infection from one eye to another or re-infect the already affected eye.

    If the pinkness in your eye is being caused by lack of sleep or dryness, then you can use artificial tear drops.
