I know, it's a stupid question. But does it count as volunteer work/community service? Probably not community service.

I need some volunteer time for school... that's why I'm asking.

  1. Technically it is volunteer work if you're not getting paid for it, but schools usually need community service hours and this is not really that.

  2. If you are volunteering your time for a charitable event and they have IRS Charitable status as a 501 c3 (meaning they can raise money and are tax exempt) than your time helping at the event is community service.

Having said that, it also depends on why you want/need community service.  Some schools, houses of worship etc have guidelines, but please realize if you did not volunteer your time they would have to pay someone to do your job or may not be able to have the event.

The human resource of time is a wonderful gift.  Bravo to you.

  3. Probably not... do golf courses need volunteers? Why don't you try going to your local Library. It's easy volunteer work and it may lead to a job. (The people who shelf books get paid $15 per hour).
