Considering China is funding the Darfur genocide, I am not watching the olympics and think NBC is supporting the genoicde by airing them. Do you agree?

  1. Well, do you think watching the US athletes win medals means you support Bush if he was there at the games? Sports has NOTHING to do with politics, unless YOU choose it to.

It doesn't mean you or anyone supports the genocide and I agree that NBC and other networks don't cover it as they should.

  2. I agree with you, I dont think we should be over in China playing games with them when all the time their hiding everything  that is real or lets say hiding the truth. Look what happened with the men protesting in  the big square I dont know how to spell the name of the square, I just know its a ... shame people have to live like that with big brother watching you I believe that it's just a matter of time and Russia and China will be at our back door..

  3. Don't even go on with your stupid bickering of China's support of Sudan.

Darfur activists DISGUST me. I puke at Joey Cheeks and Mia Farrow. They don't care about US supporting Ethiopia and gunning even MORE Somalia civilian life.

There IS NOTHING in the media that condemns US own actions.

Oh and talking about genocides; wasn't Idin Amin who is trained by the Royal Army and murdered millions. How stupid can the British govt be?

  4. Partially I do agree however, as I have lived a fairly long life so far I have found that boycotting especially the Olympics does no good. First of all it was decided about 10 years ago that China would have the Olympics this year, it really couldn't be stopped or cancelled (even during WW2 there were Olympics in Berlin).  The Olympics by its very nature -- are supposed to "rise above" any conflicts of interests - to  be a pure form of athletic trials. No matter where the Olympics are held there will always be some controversy - and some who boycott- but the Olympics will go on. The Games will rise above your interests to be as it is supposed to be - pure athleticism.

  5. it just goes to show that this so called sporting event cannot be held that in some way politics eclipses the games themselves.

  6. First, you bring about some good points but on the other hand think objectively about what your saying...

If boycotting Chinese products, the major way the Chinese elite makes their fortune, is not going to be productive in pressuring the Chinese then how is boycotting a "for fun" event that only Networks make money off of going to change anything?  It will bring attention to what China is doing, but everyone who is of any importance already knows what it is doing.  The people that make a difference on both sides like making money and as long as we Americans continue to depend on China for our manufacturing it will only further enrichen the Chinese elites.  Likewise if we cannot afford to pay 10 times more for an American product it is because of that dependency on the Chinese to begin with.

Chinese cheap labor is not the main issue, and like you say those who use that argument are wrong but not for the reason you think.  Chinese workers will continue working wither it be to make products for us or not.  Unlike our elites, in the Communist country, the elites will have to take a fall in exchange for Chinese workers to continue working.

Boycotting a sporting event like the Olympics is going to punish NBC.  What is that going to do?  Chinese elite would rather kill off their own entire sports team rather then have to give up their current profit making.

Finally, as far as buying oil, dont you think we are the last country on earth to tell someone else what they can or cant do to get resources?!

Simply look at the Georgian issue...we have tried to bring them into our orbit so we can use them as a jumping point to the Caspian Sea without having to deal with Iran or Russia.  How many dictators have we enabled and given aid to through out the world, specifically the Middle East in order to maintain the flow of resources.

Sure the Chinese are bad but what does the Olympics have to do with anything.  Would boycotting Germany in 1936 have done anything?  Did the boycots of 80 and 84 do anything for either side of the Cold War?  The answer is no.

If you want to bring attention to anything it is that we were number one in the world when we made everything and exported everything not the other way around.

  7. Yes (and that of the Tibetan people).

  8. Yes. It also means they support Myanmar genocide as well as the destruction of America and democracy as we know it.

    Think I'm joking?

Some people have said "its not political".....everything is political. Every chance you get to stand up to the bad guys is noteworthy and those who failed to do it this week are nothing. Just hollow. It's the perfect opportunity to show what you're made of and so many people failed. Even the designer of the Olympic stadium said it's political and chose to boycott the Olympics so what does that tell ya!?

The purpose of boycotting is not to "stop" the olympics from happening. It's to raise awareness. If everybody boycotted the Olympics, people living in China may actually hear about it even though they are censored from learning about such things. Then they may decide to have another Tiananmen and maybe this time it would make a difference instead of them getting ran over by tanks. People in other countries would hear about it and maybe donate money to certain causes, which is more important than some selfish athlete's life long dream. They made a promise not to arrest people and to allow freedom of speech when they were granted the Olympics...they broke their promise so "countries getting together for a good thing" is not what is going on over there. It's business as usual in Beijing.

  9. yes it does, people should stand up to china and our governments who are supporting it

  10. Do you also boycott EVERY SINGLE Chinese made product? What about McDonald's? They support the Olympics... also, what about ALL the other sponsors that proudly display the Olympic rings? I think the Olympics is a huge spectacle, but is NOTHING compared to the trillions that pour into China via products/cheap c**p being made in and exported here from China....

All in all, our lives do run off the backs of the underpaid Chinese sweatshop workers, spurning the economy of an EVIL nation that has NO regard for human life, it's own citizens' or those in Darfur (or any other place for that matter)... and realistically, I believe we're too far gone when it comes to our love affair with cheaply made, mass produced junk. However, on the other hand, we've allowed the unions to be bullies, subsequently forcing employers to raise the pay of employees, give HUGE benefits to said employees, and driving the jobs from this country because employers simply can't afford the union demands...

    It's a sad time we're in.

  11. this is one of the most bizarre things i've ever read on yahoo

  12. I am not watching the games for the same reason but I don't think I have a right to tell someone else that they should not watch it. If I done that I would be no better than the Chinese government in reality.

  13. Ask this question to the thousands of athletes who train and enjoy this superb event for years. Its the one and only time where like minded people of the world can get together and compete in a friendly way.Good luck to them all  Its a pity that world governments cant behave in the same way..
